I was installing memory in my Emachines C2825 PC and I mistakenly disconnected the 3 power connections to the mother board. One connection is labeled (HDD LED, it is Red & white), the next connection is labeled (Power SW, it is black & white) and the last connection is Labeled (Power LED, it is green & white). These three connections go to the Power button and Hard Drive LED on the front of the PC. Can anyone direct me to a picture that shows where these get connected? I went on the Emachines site and also spoke to a customer rep, but they were of no help.
Thank you
I have already done this, but since there are many combinations, I have not been successful. That is why I am trying to get a picture of the motherboard. Re: Need picture of mother board for Emachine C2825
I've built a PC myself, each connector had text on it to say what it was and one arrow on it in relief, don't know wether that indicated plus or minus anymore.
Anyway, I recommend you just plug them in, and try to boot the PC. If it doesn't boot, switch the Power SW connector around, then it should boot. Do the same with the LED connectors, and it should work just fine!

your getting power to your PSU, via the green light on your mobo.
verify the PSU has a green light(most emachines do)
it sort of sounds stupid but, check the connection of the cable coming from the front of the case(the wires that connect to the mobo to the power button on the outside of the case.
if all else fails, take the pc out of the case.. put all components on a static free bag and start to rebuild your PC(without a case)
...this will rule out a short on the PC case, and faulty wiring from the case...
pretty much sounds like you've been through almost every step except replacing the PSU(you just said you tested/but your getting power to the PSU)
If you have a Yellow light on power supply, chances are you have blown the power supply. Even with a PC unplugged in a Bad Storm, I have seen many PC's and Laptops with Supplies shoot. If you have a little computer savvy, the best thing to do is, 1. Disconnect power. 2. Open unit. 3. Disconnect all Devices from supply. 4. Disconnect 20 04 24 pin power supply connector to mother board. 5. If you have other connectors such as 4-pin 24 Volt acc. you can disconnect that as well. 6. Now plug in the supply. Note... Some supply's have a reset located in the rear of the supply, where it makes its input ( A/C connection. ) If so try the reset. Some supply's also light up or have a service light when sensing input power, some do not. 7. If all looks good and no sparks or flames, re-connect the mother board connection, (only) Try to power on computer. Note..... If you still have the Yellow light, Replace the supply. In some cases, the power supply sees a fault and fold back to a protection mode. The supply has several Capacitors in which hold a charge and when connected to the mother board retain that charge. Disconnecting the Mother Board 20- 24 pin connector will allow this charge to dissipate. If all works after reconnecting supply, Your Good To Go.!!! If not, you may need another Power supply. Or may have done other damage. Hope all works out for you. Try it, it may work... Readers, please rate your Technician Thank you. John Ray [email protected]
By nothing else, from a technical standpoint this would mean literally nothing, the CPU fan, power supply fan, aux fan, disk drive not spinning up, etc. My experience with EMachines is their motherboards aint the best, have been known to take out hard drives and other peripherals to the mother board. If you are technically inclined the first thing to do is to bare out the system, Power Supply attached to the Mother Board w/ Cpu Monitor and Keyboard no Hard Drive and no Non esential boards installed, very carefully remove the memory and start it up all should be fine except it should give you a long beep from the PC Speaker indicating the Mother Board is aware there is no memory installed if it will not do this most basic of tests this is not good. If it does give you a health beep continue to install one item at a time, first the memory, the display should, if working, tell you there is a boot failure, of course, the hard drive is not connected, do so and keep on testing. Without knowing what type of mother board you have, most likely an AT with integrated peripherials the process to determine exactly what the problem is would take hands on trouble shooting. If you dont get the beep indicating the mother board cant determine if memory is installed and truley nothing else is on it is more likely the mother board. There are several good ones online that will fit your case if you want to go this route. Or is it time to upgrade ?
Heat sink switches? I have to assume that you're talking about a dead mother board but the fans and the LED on the mother board are OK? This is a classic eMachines problem. Their power supplies glitch and take out the mother board sometimes the power supply goes bad too.
Failures in the motherboard, memory, or any installed card could cause that symptom. All I can suggest based on the above information is remove memory one piece at a time and retest, remove/reseat video card if you have one, and attempt to reset the CMOS using the jumper on the board. You might also try removing the battery on the board and unplugging everything, then attempt to reboot.
I don't see the previous post. Why do you need to replace your memory and mother board? How old is the emachine? Some of the P1 and PII systems had mother boards riveted in. If it is older than a P4 it would be best to replace the computer.
I have to assume you mean
Will the cooling fans run if it is still powered by mother board and disconencted from the mount ,such as processor or chipset ??
Yes it would , but is a very dangerous thing to do ,as it could easily short against anything within the case
Be more specific with your problem maybe someone can help you better
I have already done this, but since there are many combinations, I have not been successful. That is why I am trying to get a picture of the motherboard. Thanks for your comments.
