2. the ink absorber or flushing boxes are full. replace them
The ink absorber box or flushing box is nearly full. These components are periodic maintenance items that may require replacement after a period of time to ensure optimum performance from your Brother machine. Because these components are periodic maintenance items, the replacement is not covered under the warranty. The need to replace these items and the time period before replacement is dependent on the number of purges and flushes required to clean the ink system. These boxes acquire amounts of ink during the different purging and flushing operations. The number of times a machine purges and flushes for cleaning varies depending on different situations. For example, frequently powering the machine on and off will cause numerous cleaning cycles since the machine automatically cleans upon power up. The use of non-Brother ink may cause frequent cleanings because non-Brother ink could cause poor print quality which is resolved by cleaning. The more cleaning the machine requires the faster these boxes will fill up. http://support.brother.com/g/b/faqlist.aspx?c=as_ot&lang=en&prod=dcpj4110dw_eu_as&tabid=2

Hi, this error is displayed because the printer has performed a preset number of printhead purging and flushing operations, and the ink absorber and the waste flushing box is full.
CAUTION If you reset the counter without replacing the ink absorber and the flushing box, you can end up with ink flowing out of the printer, all over your desk! It happens! I have seen several messed up desks and carpets stained with ink.
To reset the Counter (After you have replaced the parts mentioned)
Put the device into 'Maintenance mode' - Press Menu and Black(mono) Start keys, next press the uparrow 4 times to make the device enter the Maintenance mode. It should beep for one second and then display MAINTENANCE on the LCD.
Press 8 and 0 keys to enter machine log mode
Press the Black (mono) Start key several times until the 'Purge' or 'Flushing' count comes up on the LCD
Press the 2, 7, 8, and 3 keys in this order to reset the count
Press Stop/Exit key to return to initial Maintenance mode
Press the 9 key twice to exit and return to normal operation.
That is a common problem on all Canon printers, the purge assembly on the right where the printhead parks, has a pump inside and hoses that go to the filters and ink absorbers. When that unit goes out you need a replacement. A job best done in a shop. When the printhead is not cleaned and primed properly you get blank pages no matter how full the inks are.
HI i am Vortash .. chances are that the head jets have become blocked , if the printer maintance system ( ink purge and clean etc ) does not cure the problem you may try what I do periodicaly to keep my printer clean ..
Get an old cartrige and make a small hole in the top ( same as you would do if you bought a universal ink kit ) then instead ok ink fill it with either Ink flush , or alchahol .. then put it in the printer and print a few test pages ..this cleans and purges all old ink and makes the printer print clearer ... hope this helps regards Vortash
Solution :
Replace both the ink
absorber box and flushing
box and reset their
counters. (When you need
to replace the ink absorber
box or flushing box,
replace both.)
You will have to remove the scanner top to get to the absorber box, a little more complicated that I care to explain in this forum. You could just reset the absorber box count and move on...the ones I have cleaned were not that bad when this problem and error 46 occurred. Go in to maintenance mode by pressing Menu, *,2,8,6,4 withing two seconds. If the lights are not blinking, press the stop key and retry procedure. The display will not say maintenance if you have error code 46. Once in maintenance mode press 8,0 to enter equipment data log. Press the black start key until the machine displays "Purge". Press 2,7,8,3 in this order to reset purge counter to 0. Press black start key until the display says "Flushing". Press 2,7,8,3 in this order to reset flushing counter to 0. Press stop key to exit the Equipment Data Log. Press 9,9 to exit maintenance mode
