I have a Kenmore gas dryer purchased in 1989 which shuts off half-way through the cycle. This is a heavy duty, soft heat unit, model #110 87874800 serial #MX0816640.

The door feels hot and it will not start again until it cools down. It makes a loud buzzing sound when it starts. Does anyone have any idea about what is causing the problem and how to repair this dryer?

Your motor is overheating and shutting off on the limit switch. You should check the vent hose, it needs thorough cleaning. Also, you must take the front panel off and vacuum the inside of the dryer and around the motor. It may be too late for the motor but you have a chance. If you have an air compressor, it is best to blow high pressure air into the motor to get thorough cleaning.
keeping the vent and inside of the dryer clean can reduce drying time by more than 50% and operating cost by as much as $20.00 per month

Testimonial: "Elie Balas, thank you so much for responding to my question on the dryer problem! I will follow your advice and give the hose and motor a good cleaning, and hope this will fix the problem. It is so good to know that there are experts like yourself who are willing to give their time and knowledge to help others who, like me, have no idea where to begin. Again, Thank you so much!!!"

Why isn't My Kenmore Heavy Duty 70 Series Soft Heat Extra Capacity Electric Dryer drying clothes on any one cycle?

One possibility: Air flow! Make sure that the lint trap is cleaned before each cycle. You likely need to thoroughly clean out the vent piping out the back of the machine- a buildup of lint in here can also restrict airflow.

Kenmore dryer shuts off after five minutes

The vent box inside the dryer still has lint in it. You need to reach way inside to get at it. Turn power off.

Kenmore heavy duty clothes dryer will not heat

You really need a volt / ohm meter to check for Continuity & Volts Its well worth the investment... $15.00 bucks give or take a few I would check to see if you have 220v to back of dryer where the cord mounts to dryer, If dryer is getting only 1 leg 110 volts instead of the 220 will it not heat. Check themostates & heater for Continuity... Most models, Now have a.. Hi-limit fuses that need to be checked for Continuity
