If the vehicle is running an your only seeing a little over 12 volts you have a alternator or wiring problem . You should see 13.1 to 14.1 volts with the vehicle running an that could cause your strange problems . low voltage !

My 2004 Ford Escapes radio wont work and it doesnt let me lock my doors when the car isnt running it also doesnt ding when the car doors are open. what is happening?

Hello Al,

Does your dash display a flashing "service soon" indicator?
Have you checked for fault codes?

You have a good battery, your ignition switch is powering up the vehicles dash board and the vehicle will start and operate normally....?

Any lights on the radio display?
Check for 12 volts on the radio power lead...no power? check for 12 volts across the accessory / radio position in the fuse box. No power but fuse is good...wiring issue in the harness.

Power across fused circuit no power to radio check radio's in line fuse...fuse good? ... radio bad or disconnected speaker wires.

Make sure all your vehicles grounding positions are clean and tight.

When you say your door locks don't work are your talking about the switch on the door or the remote fob?

Check your owners manual to check for any radio reset info.

Why doesn't car turn over or start?

Your battery is very low, enough to light the dash but not to start the engine. Get your self a volt meter that plugs into the cigarette lighter (any good auto store have them). You can now see the voltage of your battery. If it is less than 10 volts, then it will need to be charged/jump started. If the battery is good with 12 volts, then check the ground cable for a good contact to frame and check that the cables are secure on the battery.

What causes dials to go crazy on instrument panel, then car dies?

It sounds like an alternator related issue. Once the battery drops below 12 volts it will do lots of silly things with gauges and thats why when you change it all works fine. Check that with engine running with a volt meter you have 13.8 to 14.2 volts across the battery, if not you may have an alternator issue

REPLACED STARTER THEN RECHARGED BATTERY CAR STARTED FINE THEN DROVE FINE THEN GAGES ON DASH STARTED GOING CRAZY ALONG WITH RADIO THEN CAR ACTING LIKE IT WANTS TO DIE NOW WONT START

sounds like your battery is dying,, have it LOAD tested,, it could show 12 volts, but the amperage isn't up to par,, even with one bad cell the battery will drain , also,, once you know its fully charged, start the vehicle,, use a meter at the battery posts to check the voltage,, you should get a reading of 13.5-14.5 volts, if not your alternator isn't doing its job, make sure all battery connections are clean and tight.

1996 3.1L Pontiac Grand AM all gauges went crazy

sometimes when the battery is too low the gages will go haywire.check you battery terminals for good conductivity and current levels. sounds like a low current problem.computer runs on 12 volts not 11 or 10. low current will give poor performance and bad electrical response.
try that first then look for shorts under the dash ie naked wires or burnt wires.
good luck.
