All calculator use scientific notation if the result is too small or too large. Some, like the Casio FX9750G II, offer you two Normal displays, Norm1 and Norm2 that have different limits when numbers are converted to scientific notations. Here is how to set one or the other. In Run>Mat press SHIFT MODE (Setup). Scroll down or up to reach the display line. Press F3 to select Norm1 or Norm2.
The "problem" is not how to calculate with numbers expressed in Scientific Notation but how to enter a number given to you in scientific notation. Once the number is entered you do not have to do anything special. If you have to multiply it use the (x) button. to add it use the + button, etc.
How to enter a number in scientific notation.
Type in the mantissa (example 6.022) Press the [X10^x] at the bottom of keypad. Enter the exponent (example 23) with this example you will have entered Avogadro's number 6.022x10^23 Other example 1.6 [X10^x] (-) 19 enters the electron charge in Coulombs. The exponent is negative that is why you press the change sign key (-).
You've got the display set to fixed decimal notation. To change it, press SHIFT MODE 7 to switch to a scientific notation or SHIFT MODE 8 and then 1 or 2 to switch to one of the norm display modes.
norm1 switches to scientific notation if the magnitude of the number is less than 0.01 . norm2 switches to scientific notation if the magnitude of the number is less than 0.000000001 .

Hello, Press [SHIFT][MODE][6:Fix] and press a numbetr between (0--9). The number you select will be the number of decimal places your results have. However if a result is smaller than 0.001 it will be in scientific notation.
This can be done by setting the calculator to the right MODE. Press MODE 9 to turn on scientific notation. For example, compute 1 / 200 = and you will see 5 with a -03 exponent in the upper right. Press MODE 9 again and it will be displayed .005
To enter numbers in scientific notation use the EXP at the bottom. To enter .005, press 5 then EXP then +/- then 3. You will see it displayed. Then you can perform calculations with this entered number.
