14HP Kohler engine in JD314 garden tractor has no spark - new coil, condenser and battery - cranks over strong but will not spark

Check the earth strap from the engine to the chassis. Remove the strap clean both terminals and the chassis where it bolts onto.
For a spark you not only need live to the coil but you also have to have propper earth for it to complete the circuit.

if that is the Kohler 14 hp motor it may have the spark control untit on the motor cover. I recently ran into one like that and switched the coil out from a blown 20 hp kohler engine. I just taped up the excess wires and made sure they were not near any moving parts. The mower ran fine after that. Kohler wants about $160.00 for a spark control unit. There have been no repercussions since making the switch.

If this is a Kohler engine make certain that you have replaced both the points and the condenser with new parts. You should not see sparking at the points if they are installed and adjusted correctly. For Kohler, the correct point gap should be about .020 inches - use a gauge. Don't assume that your spark plug is good - replace. While the number of spark plug failures is few I have had it happen.

I had this issue on my 14hp kohler and it was the ignition module. Would run until it heated up then shut down.

Is this a Kohler engine? If so there is a wire going to the coil from a 2 wire harness located at rear of engine near spark module. Unplug this wire to determine if problem is coil or a safety switch.

Hi..my name is Keith... the condensor just keeps the points from arcing...and since you have replaced the points(and done it correctly)..i would suspect the coil has an open winding in it..and i would replace it..i hope it has helped
