Trying to wire to a external ignition switch - Kohler PA-CH440-3031 Gas Engine, 4 Cycle, 14 Hp 6VMW2

The self contained ignition module and coil generally has a single wire that goes to the on/off switch.

There only is the possibility of a switch problem, the failure of the switch to ground the wire or there is a fault with the wire itself. If there is no external fault then the fault must be within the coil.

Ground - negative
12v positive - switchable positive (for example, on when ignition is on, usually connected to accessory side on ignition switch)
auto ant - connected to your electric antenna or to turn on external amplifier.
Memory - connected to always on positive (to keep all your stereo presets )

I had a similar problem years ago. As long as your dash lights come on, it's likely you can use an external pushbutton switch to run the starter. There are likely just 4 wires on the ignition switch. Power from the battery, and switched to:
accessories
main car stuff (dash lights, ignition, signals, etc)
starter.
splice in wires from battery and starter to new switch, and you're good to go. This worked for years on my old car.

You have to put the tether on the incoming hot wire to the ignition. This will kill all power to the ignition. Thus killing the engine. Sorry I can't tell you the color code.

Shift Interlock System An ignition/shifter interlock mechanism is installed to prevent shifting the transaxle out of the PARK position unless the ignition switch is rotated to RUN and the brake pedal is applied. The floor shift interlock system consists of:

• an actuator assembly integral to the ignition/shifter interlock cable assembly.
• a bracket retaining the actuator.
• the necessary wiring.

The solenoid is energized when the ignition switch is turned to the RUN position, locking the transaxle range selector lever in the PARK position. When the brake pedal is applied and the stoplight switch (13480) is activated, the ignition/shifter interlock actuator is deactivated and the transaxle range selector lever can be moved out of the PARK position.

Use Rotunda 73 Digital Multimeter 105-R0051 or equivalent to perform pinpoint tests.

Why not look for a used column with all the wiring harnesses and switches?

Hi, most of the older bikes like the villiers used flywheel magneto ignition, where the ignition coil was inside the flywheel normaly you would have a metal engine stop ontop of the engine this was bolted to the cylinderhead and would bend or was hinged you would bend it down until it made contact with the spark plug and it earthed out, this would kill the spark.
As so with the external ignition coil, a single switch was used on the handlebar, with a wire from the coil, at the points wire This would then earth out when pressed stoping the engine

You must have an 8 cylinder Nissan vehicle, so you have 8 plus wires.

The plug in the very center should lead you to an external ignition coil.

Some cars and trucks have the ignition coil inside of the distributor cap and some have the coil placed somewhere in the engine bay externally.

There is also some people who like to use aftermarket high performance external ignition coils. In this case the internal one is removed and a new cap with one extra plug point is installed so that they can run the external coil off of the extra plug point.

The mechanic should check the ignition switch of the car . prepare the equipment to be used then check the ignition switch, check the wires that are connected to the ignition switch that connect to the battery. you also have to check the fuse if the ignition switch is worn out or destroyed then repair or replace.The wires if there are worn out or destroyed wires and fuses then replace , if loose wire connection then reconnect them.But to figure it out the problem is only in the ignition switch and its wires or wire connections.You just have to repair and reconnect the wires and repair the ignition switch.

do you have an external coil with igniter or internal in the distributor if it is external sounds like a bad igniter if it is in the distributor change the distibutor
