I lot could depend on how the music source has been connected to the receiver. If you are using a stereo CD player then you may need to check if it is configured to send audio in stereo mode and not mono. The input source selection for the audio is given in page 26 of the manual.
You can go to the setting menu in Receiver and configure the speakers settings according to which ones you have installed.
Also refer page 25 in the manual to over ride speaker configuration if it is not showing correct.
Normally I see most of the Onkyo units have game inputs for a/v. I am sure you have connected them to the right inputs. The output to the speakers, let's say you have external speakers, depends on the listening modes. You may want to go to the modes and go up/down through them to see if ;you can get audio that way. If your not successful you could run your game to the tv and the run the TV output L/R audio back to the receiver. That should send all TV audio to the receiver.
Check the settings on receiver in the SETUP menu / HDMI / Audio. Here you can choose Amp (sound goes from the speakers connected to receiver), TV (receiver is muted and sound is routed via HDMI to TV) and Amp+TV (sound goes from speakers and also to TV). Also check in OPTION menu / Signal Info that receiver is receiving sound in recognized format.
Instead of trying to use the wireless speaker as a dedicated TV-audio-via-the-receiver speaker why don't you just attach it as recomended to the receiver for ALL of its audio outputs; or directly to the TV if that is the sole use you have in mind?
And since TV is an audio INPUT only to the receiver, simplify the audio hookup by attaching its analog audio to any available analog input BUT NOT one that funtions as a tape loop.
One more significant improvement I would recommend is to draw the TV-related audio from whatever device originates it but NOT the TV. THe sources are probably all capable of digital multi-channel sound while your routing of TV-analag-stereo audio limits the quality by washing it through the TV's questonable audio electronics while forbidding actual multichannel listening.
Define (or examine) how things are connected and see if you have any shared or conflicting inputs related to TV audio.
If you're actually drawing audio from the TV's audio outputs, well, TV's are not known for their audio chops. If you want to hear good TV aueo, get it from the same place the TV gets it - DVD, Blu-Ray, cable, x-box audio, whatever should go straight to the receiver.
Do you listen to audio CDs via a CD player or DVD player? Pure audio CD is only 2-channel, so either TV or the DVD player is doing the mix to 5 channels. But you can choose the sound mode via remote - there should be modes like 5ch/7ch stereo, where the same signal is going to all speakers (I you this mode for listening to radio sometimes).
Consult the user manual. If you don't have one, it can be downloaded free at Denon's website. Two of the speaker oututs serve multiple functions. Hookup and setup need to be checked. What you want to do is possible as long as you're only using a 5.1 setup indoors.
