Why isn't my Rangemaster Hood blower turning when switched on?

My Broan NuTone RMP1 Range hood blower motor is not turning. I do hear an electrical humming noise when the switch is turned on, and the power light comes on but the fan is not turning. I have tested the fuse on the unit and it is good, and I noticed what appears to be a capacitor as well that I have not yet tested. I'm hoping I don't have to replace the blower motor, and would like to test it. I haven't yet figured out how to get the blower housing out or opened without dropping the whole unit from the cabinets, and am not sure if this is even an option. Any suggestions are appreciated!

I dropped the whole hood out of the cabinet, pulled off the duct and saw that the discharge collar, which is a spring-loaded butterfly valve that sits at the outlet of the blower and hood, had dislodged and fallen down into the blower fan and was blocking it from turning. I reseated it and its working fine!

Hi Ed
Being a range hood & subjected to cooking fats etc. It might be gummied up around the fan and just require cleaning!
But.... you said it was humming and there is a capacitor close by.
Then it's probably an induction motor thats not getting kick started by the Cap. While it's humming, use a finger (or stick) to push start in one direction or try other direction. If it spins up and stays going.... you've found the problem. The Cap is not kick starting in the right direction. Remove the Cap (with AC Disconnected) and check the values to get a similar replacement.

Good Luck

Broan QS3 Nutone Allure III Range Hood. Has anyone tried to disassemble the Braun QS3 controller to degrease or repair it?

Question edited for clarity. This appears to Broan rather than Braun. Added full model name.

This answer on Fixya hints that the original boards were faulty. I thought he was from Broan, but it sounds like he is a repairer.

Replace Broan Model K260A Range Hood Light Switch Slider Assembly

Hi if the new part has no screw holes or place for clip and it is only push in connector ie you dont need to solder the wires to it then it will just pull out use a small screw driver under the edge and gently pry free you cant damage it anymore than it is anyway can you.
Also on the side of the new switch if their is no groove cut into it for a push on clip to hold it in place then it will just pull out and push the new one in.

Blower fan is not turning

Check to make certain that there are no obstructions or objects stopping the fan. Power off the unit, check the fan. Does it spin freely, if not check to make certain that it is not stuck or otherwise stopped. The fan can easily be replaced, but usually needs a service call to do this, be sure to get a quote as the cost may exceed the $$$ to replace the entire device.

The fan motor makes a noise but doesn not start rotating, if you rotate the fan the motor kick in and continues to work until it os turned off.

Hi,
The motor probably is not starting because the bearings are a bit stiff....
Take the hood apart and give it a good cleaning, being careful to not get the motor wet...
Then if you can get the hood in a position to run some light motor oil down the shaft and into the motor... spin the shaft as you do this... get oil worked into the motor bearings then it will probably work again...

Broan kitchen hood - frenetic chimney

It can be 2 things.

1. The motor that elevates the fan is turning a tad to much. Just by stepping on the floor near it could cause it to go up/down constantly.
2.Or what i had seen was the wires that go to the switch dont have enough slack, and are just making contact to the switch causing it to think somone is pushing the button constantly.

There is way too many steps involved to type out.
