My Broan NuTone RMP1 Range hood blower motor is not turning. I do hear an electrical humming noise when the switch is turned on, and the power light comes on but the fan is not turning. I have tested the fuse on the unit and it is good, and I noticed what appears to be a capacitor as well that I have not yet tested. I'm hoping I don't have to replace the blower motor, and would like to test it. I haven't yet figured out how to get the blower housing out or opened without dropping the whole unit from the cabinets, and am not sure if this is even an option. Any suggestions are appreciated!
Hi Ed
Being a range hood & subjected to cooking fats etc. It might be gummied up around the fan and just require cleaning!
But.... you said it was humming and there is a capacitor close by.
Then it's probably an induction motor thats not getting kick started by the Cap. While it's humming, use a finger (or stick) to push start in one direction or try other direction. If it spins up and stays going.... you've found the problem. The Cap is not kick starting in the right direction. Remove the Cap (with AC Disconnected) and check the values to get a similar replacement.
Good Luck

I dropped the whole hood out of the cabinet, pulled off the duct and saw that the discharge collar, which is a spring-loaded butterfly valve that sits at the outlet of the blower and hood, had dislodged and fallen down into the blower fan and was blocking it from turning. I reseated it and its working fine!
