5 Jul 2014 ...Unlocking power wheelchair joysticks is essential to a power wheelchair owner. ... Many of you who use power wheelchairs do not fully know the hidden ... joystick, which is commonly found on Invacare power wheelchairs.
7 Flashes indicates a joystick trip. Turn off your chair, ensure the joystick is in center position without anything touching it and turn on chair. This should clear the 7 flash code.
This problem is quite common amongst power chair users. It typically occurs when something is pressing against the joystick as you are turning the chair on.
Replace the batteries. Your charger is probably supplying the needed power to turn on the chair and when you unplug the charger, your batteries are not able to supply enough power to keep the chair on.
Replace the batteries. Your charger appears to be supplying the power to the chair and when you unplug the charger the batteries are not continuing the same amount of power and the chair will not stay on.
Be sure the free-wheel \ brake release handles are set to drive\lock position prior to turning on. After that, if chair still does not move, you will need to count the flashes on the joystick to determine the error or issue with the chair. A user manual can be purchased on ebay.
I Have a Merits S-142. I just purchased an installed 2 new batteries, my problem is the Red light stays on even after 18 hrs of charging. Also when I turn the Key on NO lights come on. I checked the fuses and the all look OK. Can you please help me Mike
Sorry there is no manual on-line for the chair. You can get the manual from tuffcare by calling them link below. Also you want to charge the chair with the switch in the off position.
The chair has two levers, one for each motor, that disengage it for freewheeling, or pushing the chair without power. These take it out of gear. Place the levers in the locked, gear-engaged position and it should go for you. Here's a link for the manual for your chair, and it will show you where the location is to place it in gear.http://www.invacare.com/doc_files/1125085J.pdf
