Sometimes my check engine light and battery light come on while riding and will go off after a short time. Other times it stays on until I shut the bike off. What is causing this?

All the time?

you check for fault codes (OBD 2 Codes) within
24 hours or park the vehicle & not use it

You will ruin a vehicle using it with a problem & it
will cost you more & may be more difficult to find
all the problems

If your told to get a free code check-that Will Not tell
you what is wrong

Codes also have nothing to do with the need to replace
any parts

Until you have a vehicle tested & find a problem-- there is
no need for any parts

Have the battery load tested. Have the Diodes checked in the Alternator. What can sometimes happen is the small plastic plug-in that supplies power to the stator will ride up inside the plastic clip. What mechanics have done is work the wire out of the plastic clip.and secure the wire on the tab inside the Alternator. You would then slide the plastic back down the wire and snap click it into place.

Should you check out good for both the battery and Alternator, you need to find a short. With several circuits staying "live" at all times, this is not an easy diagnosis. Ford has some Circuit analyzers which fit in-between the major PIN connectors and some of these connectors have up to 100 pins. These Circuit analyzers test all the plug connectors at 1 time. The time savings are major.

You can individually test individual circuits. You probably have a Relay staying on when the ignition is shut off. It will be time consuming to find.

Sounds like the problem lies withing your steering column. Check for shorts... Pull horn fuse in the mean time...

Pull fuses and relays one by one until it stops Thats the circuit. They use low voltage to turn a relay on and sometimes they stick on. When I put 300,000 candle power headlights on my car the relay would get stuck all the time

Probably an Oxygen sensor is slowly going out, or something small like thatm had to be emmissons/ elcetrical though....Assson as it comes on go to Advancedauto they will do a diagnosis for free most times, if you have the ob1, or ob2 system, which you do! Also check the gas cap, i know it sounds crazy but a loose gas cap can send off the CE-light, and do other crazy things...Hope this fix's-ya !!

If you have not replaced the pto switch do so. If you have check wiring from switch to the pto coil. Many times the wiring at the pto coil is rubbed by the belt until it wears the wire into. You can also try energizing the coil to the pto directly from battery (With engine off of course) If it energizes and stays energized it is probably not the coil.

It is activated by a temperature switch. It's probably bad. Just runs the fan at any time for no reason or there is a short in that part of the system. I hate that the computor was changed first. Find that sensor and swap it out and see if your problem doesn't go bye bye.
