My northstar pressure washer has no pressure

thats exaclty what a unloader valve does it unloads the pump when the trigger on wand is not depressed , it should however reseat and close off when trigger is pressed giving full presure to wand tip

This is typically due to the unloader bypass valve not operating properly. You can remove and clean this valve or you may want to replace the valve with a new one.
If you take the high pressure hose off of the pump and with the water turned on you can start the engine each time then you probably should replace the unloader bypass valve.

If this hole has threads then it might be the soap inlet. If water is shooting out under pressure you may have an obstruction in the hose/handle. Try removing the hose and running the washer and see if the water flows out the connection. If the hose ends up being the problem a visual inspection and cleaning of all inlets and the handle should clear it.

If the water coming out of the hole is low/tap line pressure then I think your bypass *(or unloader) valve is stuck in the bypass position.

A stuck unloader just needs to be unstuck and lightly cleaned. A light coating of silicon grease wouldnt hurt either!

Get the manual for this pump and see how to open/remove the unloader valve.

Most likely problem is that the unloader is bypassing water. As unloader wears it will by pass at lower pressure. Try lowering the pressure at the regulator to lowest setting then raise pressure a little at a time untill unloader releases then lower to prevent unloading. Using a slighly larger tip will do the same thing. Using a larger tip size lowers pressure.

The pressure adjuster you are talking about is actually your unloader which is a pressure relief valve. It is normal for this to pop up and down as it moves in and out of bypass mode. Your pressure issue could be a failed unloader, valves or packings in the pump. You will need to bypass your unloader valve to find if the issue lies in the pump or if it is simply a failed unloader. your bypass pressure valve is weak and needs replacing,its letting water pressure bypass the pump going to the pressure gun

Normally, it is one of three things.

1.) The high pressure seals are bad

2.) There is debris in the check valves

3.) the unloader is stuck in by-pass.

You need to find the bypass (unloader) valve and grease it with a good waterproof grease. Sorry, I cannot find a pic for you
