SOURCE: heater won't stay on

This product does indeed have a problem with the safety switch, that is only supposed to kick in when the unit is turned over. I had a total of 3 units sent to me from Kaz. Each time the unit would work for a short time, then slowly begin to turn off and on. I finally decided to take the unit apart and look for any obvious problems. There is a weighted swivel that will raise a contact point to turn the unit off in an emergency. The contact points would spark off and on, depositing a black carbon on them until they would no longer allow power to pass through. I cleaned the contacts with a fine finger nail file and bent one of the contact arms inward to make better tension between the contacts. This allowed the unit to stay on for longer periods of time. But even with the thermo-stat turned all the way up, the unit does not stay on long enough to heat the room. In effect, what happens is the contacts will continue to ark, putting black deposits on the contacts until you're back to square one. Apparently the unit also has a thermo-stat related problem. I'm sending the unit back again (they only made me send the power cord last time), but will insist on a different model this time. Good Luck

SOURCE: Patio heater won't stay lit

I had this same problem - here's how I fixed it...

First: Never modify the safety features of your heater as has been suggested elsewhere on this forum. Modification of these features may allow the heater to work, but greatly compromises the safety of anyone near the heater.

The problem with the heater shutting off is most likely due to not enough gas flowing through the pilot orifice (this orifice is almost as small as the diameter of a human hair). When this happens, the pilot flame does not burn vigorously enough to activate the thermocouple. Hence, the thermocouple shuts off the gas and the burner goes out - usually you'll hear one "click" when this happens.

This is a maintence thing - meaning you may have to do this as a seasonal activity.

Here we go....
(1) Shut off the gas at the tank - or remove the tank entirely.
(2) Remove the screws that hold the burner shield and top shroud from the unit - set it aside.
(3) Remove the control knob - it just pulls straight off.
(4) Remove the panel immediately behind the knob you just took off. This will expose the gas valve assembly.
(5) Remove the cover that encloses the bottom of the pilot light/igniter (assembly). This will expose the bottom of the pilot assembly.
(6) Remove the screw holding the pilot assembly - there is a small hex nut on top, but under the burner that you'll have to hold to prevent it from turning. This will free the pilot assembly allowing you to gently pull it out of the pilot assembly housing. DON"T pull hard or you may break the gas line or thermocouple.
(7) Remove the hex nut that attaches the gas line to the pilot assembly and gently pull the gas line out. At this point, to ensure you have gas flowing through the pilot gas line, you may want to re-attach the gas tank, turn it on, gently move the gas line as far away from the spark ignitor as possible, temporarily replace the control knob, and turn the knob to the "Pilot" position & push it in. DO NOT DO THIS ANYWHERE NEAR AN OPEN FLAME OR A LIGHTED CIGARETTE! You should be able to hear a hissing sound as the gas flows. If you do not hear it, the problem may be with your gas valve, and if that's the case, I'm sorry this procedure likely won't solve the problem.
(8) Remove the pilot light tube (orifice) from the mounting bracket. There's a hex nut on the back side that holds it in. Be careful not to damage the hex nut or the threads. You'll need a pair of pliers (to hold the bracket) and an adjustable wrench for the hex nut. Make note of the orientation of the pilot burner diverter so you can put it back together the same way it came apart.
(9) Using a blast of compressed air, blow air through the pilot orifice. You should be able to see just a very (and I mean very) small pin-point of light through the pilot burner. If not, use a single strand of very fine wire - like one strand from a 18 gauge braided electrical wire - and run it through the pilot orifice. Carbon build-up can clog this orifice - which can prevent the pilot from burning vigorously enough to heat up the thermocouple. Cleaning it out periodically will likely solve the problem.

Put everything back together in reverse order as noted above - making sure your gas fittings are tight and don't leak. Once it's all back together, light the pilot flame as normal and once the thermocouple heats up, the heater should work like a charm.

SOURCE: Heater will not stay light

90% of the time, this problem is caused by either a clogged gas orifice on the pilot light's gas line, or by dust/debris in the pilot air intake, as stated by tradesman1. Start by blowing compressed air through the pilot air intake, both directions. If that doesn't solve the problem, remove the pilot assembly, then the pilot orifice, and blow compressed air backwards through the small orifice. The bottom line is that anything that causes the pilot flame to reduce in size will trigger the oxygen depletion system and that will result in the unit shutting itself off. This is a safety measure. Other possible causes: insufficient gas pressure to the unit, high altitude, defective thermocouple.

SOURCE: Heater doesn't work right

You will need to consult your directions or your owners manuel.Their are probally dip switches that need to be set for remote so the heater can communicate with your remote. These will be small switches on your board that you will need a knife point or smaller to switch. They should be marked but get your glasses out to read them. good luck

Propane Heater lights, but will not stay lit. Just refilled the tank, as it was shutting off and on before that. Now it lights, but won't stay lit.

any kinks in the hose? any leaks in the hose? any path obstructions in the hose or burner? Does it have a heat censor that needs taken out and cleaned with a green scrub pad?

Master 125,000 propane heater will ignite but when you release the button it cuts the gas off, takes about 5 minutes before it will stay on and you can change the setting. How can this be fixed?

? doesn't this control On/off on a thermostat ?? the button your referring to is it the piliot test button ? if so I guess you've found a loophole in there test strategy by holding it down for five minutes to get it too stay on ,
what does this heater do when it shuts off on seeing a heated water temp to setpoint (or doesn't it ?) as if the test button is the only way to light it , this button bypasses a few normal safety switches (allthogh I didn't know about the five minute thing) one of the most common safetys that goes on these heaters is the heat exchanger over temp switch , seems the wires get hot and the little connectors fall off it

I have a toastmaster model 2517 space heater. it comes on for a few minutes and then shuts off and then in a few minutes then comes back on. is that normal for that model? if not,how do I fix it?

it sounds like it is turning off when it reaches the temperature setting you have it at. turn it a little higher and see if it stays on longer.

Hobart LXIH stuck in Wash mode after running multiple loads. Shutting off breaker for several hours fixes problem until multiple loads have been run again and then it is once more stuck in Wash mode.

How long does it stay in the wash cycle? Indefinitely? Does the display continuously show "WASH"?. If it stays in the wash cycle indefinitely (i.e. continuously shows "WASH" for significantly beyond approx. 3 minutes), it's probably a control board malfunction. If it continues to wash after the "WASH" indicator goes out, it could be a shorted wash motor relay on the relay board or a fauly control board.

If the internal rinse water booster heater doesn't reach it's programmed setpoint temperature in time, the dishwasher will run an extended wash cycle to give the booster heater more time to finish heating the rinse water. If this is what's happening, the wash cycle would last approximately 3 minutes, then it would rinse regardless of whether the booster heater has finished heating or not.

The booster temperature thermistor may be bad, giving a false booster temperature reading, causing an extended wash cycle as described above. The booster heater elements or contactor may be bad, preventing the booster heater from heating and reaching proper temperature, also causing the same extended wash cycle to give the booster more time to heat.

Dryer heats up and then cools down after a few minutes. I checked and cleaned lint and re-started and the dryer shut off and beeped 3 times.

its the "over heat warning alarm" check both the inlet vents and the out let vents they must be free of obstruction's the bryer must be able to breath freely,,,if this dont fix it you will need to change the thermal censor in the dryer
