Be sure to RAISE the presser foot BEFORE threading the upper thread. This releases the tension disks so the thread can be seated properly.

SOURCE: Janome Memor Craft 10001 bobbin tension

Hi,

There is an adjustment on the side of the black bobbin case.

Remove the needle plate, to gain access to the case. Lift it out, noting how it is positioned! On the side of it , there are two screws, one is the adjustment screw - its the one that sits out more. To increase tension, turn it clockwise 1/8th of a turn, reassemble and test sew. (make sure the top thread tension is back to where it should be). Repeat if required. DO NOT adjust too much at a time!

Good luck

SOURCE: tension problem

For Staight Stitch.
Ideal

When adjusting top thread the Higher the number (on the little wheel) the tighter the top thread.

Results depend on
Stiffness and thickness of the fabric, number of fabric layers and type of stitch.

Are you using paper or a plastic bag or pellon under the fabric? This gives a smoother surface for embroidery (on the reverse) and you can cut it away after the design is complete.

SOURCE: My Memory Craft 3500 suddenly

Hello,

It could be a wad of lint in the upper tensioner disks keeping the disks apart. I have also seen on older machines where the thread has actually cut a groove into the disks. If you can dis-assemble the tensioner, clean and inspect. Be very careful to memorize the part order in which you remove the parts, this will help when re-assembling it.

Good Luck,
Chris

Thread is too tight

Make sure it's threaded correctly.... that there isn't a loop around the thread spool spindle.... etc. Also just because the tension number looks right doesn't mean it hasn't been tightened past the max and you are still too tight.
