I've called Sears customer service and they cannot fin the repair manual for this particular model. My question is how do I remove the top panel of the dryer? Thanks

My name is Peter. I am a retired appliance technician. Formerly working for Sears Home Services and A&E Factory Service (Sears).

Unfortunately, field service technicians are given 10-13 service calls per day. To complete these calls, we never had enough time to do a accurately diagnose the problem, we had to be in and out fast. So, we had to shoot from the hip and guess what was the most probable cause, put in the part and leave.

I took early retirement. I have a small customer base on the side. Now, I am not pressured to be in and out. I can answer customer questions, or take a hour or more to diagnose the problem. Since my retirement I have repaired everything I have touched the first time.

It is not the technicians fault. The technician wants to get home before 10:00 PM.

Send me your model number. It is either on the top of the door or on the face of your unit when you open the door, and I will help you solve the problem.

If you are close enough I will add you to my customer base and charge you about 1/3 of the cost of a company service technician.

Call your Sears customer service representative and not repair people. Our repair representative for Sears in Houston flately denied there was a problem. I called the right people and took care of that. Make sure you give them the model and it manufacturing ID number. No matter what they tell you it is a defective board made by Whirlpool who also made your machine. It is covered under a warranty( recall) . If you Google oasis kenmore problems your computer will light up. It took me a while, but they fixed mine. Two weeks later it was another problem. I spent 1200 new in 2007. We have hade no less than 6 service calls. My old washing machine is being used by my inlaws and is 15 years old. The way sears has handled this they have done a great deal of damage to thier loyal customers.

the control module is bad.... have it serviced again..

From what you describe I feel you have a Control Board failure. If you haven’t tried this try removing the 120VAC power plug to the washer then repower back up. If that doesn’t clear the issue and you decide not to do further troubleshooting it would be time to call in a service repair company. I would call Maytag for an authorized Maytag repair service in your area. Some parts like the Control Board may still be under warranty (5yr). Warranty info is in the SM link I’ve attached. The number to call is 800-688-9900. Maytag will need your model number and serial number, that info is located on the back right top side of the console.

Good luck and post back if you have questions. If you can get into Service Mode you might be able to turn on the drain pump in and pump out the tub. Let me know if you have other questions.

If your machine type is not a FAV6800AW or FAV9800AW please disregard my post.

Can you determine if the water leak is coming from the Top Lid Assembly? If so you may want to reseat the Inner Lid Panel assembly. See the Service Manual page 32 Lid Disassembly/Removal. Follow to step 5 and then reseat the inner panel. Could also be hose connections from the Water Inlet Valve to the Detergent Dispenser Water Valve. See pages 35&36 for info.

You will have to release the washer top from the washer base to inspect those valve assemblies. See page 33 for the process steps. All this assumes you want to DIY the repair if not I would call in a repair service.
