Question about Vizio E500i-B1 50-Inch 1080p Smart LED HDTV

Open Question

How to fix black vertical line on LED tv caused by what looks like impact damage at the bottom of the screen?

Not sure how it happened, but one day we turned on the TV and it had a black line on one side of the screen. We reached out to Vizio, but they said that it was not covered under their warranty since it looks like impact damage. Unfortunately, we have no idea why or how the TV was damaged, there's no sign of impact damage when the TV is off. Here's some pictures of what the damage looks like: http://imgur.com/a/X55f8 Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SOURCE: vertical black line on screen

Your set has either a bad driver board or more likely a bad plasma panel.

SOURCE: Vizio GV42L LCD TV screen black when turn TV on first time

If you are using a set top box this might be caused by turnig the box on at the same tie as you turn the tv on or slightly after you turn the tv on.  If you are using compnent or HDMI inputs the set needs to see the signal as it is turned on to know what formt the signal is in.

SOURCE: Vertical Red Line

I had a bright red 1" wide vertical line on the right side of my Vizio P42HDE as well as an equivalent Green line on the left. Sometimes a Blue line would appear adjacent to the red line. Had this TV sinc Oct. 2005. Based on internet research, I opted to purchase an LG 6871QCH060Q board (upgrade to the 6871QCH038A and the 6871QCH038C). Picked the board up on Ebay for $100 + $10 shipping from ShopJimmy parts.

From start to finish, this took about 2 hours to repair. Tons of screws to remove. Took me a while to figure out that the video connection unit in the back is completely modular and needs to be removed before attempting to remove the back cover. Once the cover was removed, I was surprised that I could not see where the replacement board was located. Turns out, you have to go one level deeper and remove the audio board and digital board followed by metal bracket/cover. Once removing the metal cover, the bad 6871QCH038A board was visible. A couple of zip ties will need to be cut as well as several cable connections to get to the 6871QCH038A board. Replaced the board with the 6871QCH060Q upgrade. Make sure to keep the sticky foam rubber isolation pieces and adhere them to the new board. It did take some time to figure out how to disconnect and reconnect all the various types of cable connections. Just take your time. The power cable connector for the 6871QCH060Q board is in a different location, thus I had to reroute the cable. Reassembled and only had 2 unused screws left!

TV workd great. Lines are gone. Have a little burn-in going on where the red line appeared, but still better than forking over $800 for a new 42" LCD 1080P TV. Hope to get a couple of more years out of this Vizio.

One line I found has a general example of LG/Vizio repair manual. Not exact, but close enough...http://www.scribd.com/doc/7580885/LG-TV-Plasma-Training-Manual

SOURCE: HELP PLEASE Vizio Plasma tv broken again - possible driver board?

This could cause by the power supply or the mainboard.

- If the LED stay Green when you turn on the TV. But you can not turn it off, in this case the main board has failed. Replace the mainboard will fix the problem.

- If the LED light always stay at Orange, you can not turn on of off. In this case the mainboard also has failed.

- If you turn on the TV you will hear the power supply click on the LED is green then it click off the light turn Orange. In this case the power supply has failed.

Which boards did the repair shop replace?

Hope this will help.

I have a vertical line on my lg led flat screen tv how could this happen? How can I fix it?

tv screens are filled with pixels that are set up in a long chain, one after the other after the other. sometimes one of those lines can get damaged from all sorts of things and cause a line to not work. thats the only idea i have but ive never heard of that being easily fixed
. best of luck

What should i do,model number below has vertical lines on half of the screen, any suggestions?

If they are blurry lines, likely you have a problem with heat damaging the diffuser plate behind the LCD. Unfortunately, there is no fix to this other than to replace the screen, which is as much as the same TV used. It's usually caused from the vents in the back of the tv getting clogged with dust/debris/smoke and the power inverter overheats. It causes the screen to develop a line on one side of the screen, then it starts to look like the screen was washed with something and you get black streaks running from the top which usually is accompanied by a darkened blurry "cloud".

LG plasma 50 inch tv with a fine vertical black line in the center of the screen that runs from the top of the screen to the bottom

Try changing the input device to something you are sure works. Switch off TV manually, switch off power, remove plug and retry after 48 hours. If problem persists, please refer it to a qualified service technician.
