I have installed artista v3.0 software and dongle on a machine running Windows 98. When I open the software to run it says it cannot see the security device.

Contrary to what Bernina has said about their software (Bernina Embroidery Software v5), that particular software CAN be installed AND ran in Windows 8 with no issues whatsoever. When you install it, it will perform normally (not go to a blue screen like Bernina says), then it will ask you to insert the dongle. After installation, go to the Bernina Embroidery icon and right click. Select troubleshoot compatibility. The computer will run a test to see what system you should run the software as. It should say Windows XP Service Pack 3. Select next. Now double click your Bernina software and it should start up fine. Hope this helped.
HASP or security device dongles were used on earlier Artista software. If your machine still has a parallel port and the HASP devie is on the connector then you probably upgraded windows over time. There is a XP device driver fix you may need to install. I recently loaded the ancient Artista software into a modern machine so I know it can be done. Just need to have the proper hardware support.
If all your trying to do is communicate with the machine from the PC then look into an USB to SERIAL converter and use the Artlink software from Bernina (free). Has much of the function that the earlier software did except for limited edit capabilities.
You probably need to install the XP drivers for the dongle. I don't have the exact website at my fingertips (brain tips?) right now, but if you visit Jan Henning's Sew Much 4 Retirement website I think she has it amongst her Tips section. I had a similar problem years ago, but solved it by putting the installation CD into the computer, not running the automatic Install, then opening the program. It then goes looking for the dongle driver on the CD. This solution does not work for everyone, some need to download the drivers off the internet.
You need a new security code. When we changed computers we worked with the dealer on where to send the form requesting Access code. You can find the form under Help on the far right of your menu bar. It's the last item called Access Code Order Form. They emaild it back to us with the code we needed along with the install instructions. The dealer should also be able to assist you with your laptop issue, although you may only be able to use the software on 1 PC or laptop as you are probably licensed for 1 copy, and they us the dongle to validate the software and the machine combination.
Hello. No, the only way you are going to get this to work is to replace the software with new ones, as all software come with different dongle numbers. The dongle numbers are specifically for the software that you have, you can't even change dongles. Can you get in touch with the seller to give you the dongle? I have a set of Cracked software for the BERNINA ARTISTA 180 that I can copy for you for $200, which you don't need a dongle for. Unfortunately there is no fix for users of version 3 who have upgraded to vista.
The version 4 of Artista software does work in Vista. I have tested this and it appears to me to be related to the software "dongle" protections.
