There's nothing more you can do. It is likely a shorted output transistor that became damaged when either playing too loud for too long, connected to shorten speaker wires, etc. A repair shop or replacement will be you best options.

My Harmon Kardon AVR 2600 goes to protect mode when powered up. After many tries it will fire up but at times it's up to twenty times. I did load the software upgrade 6 months and it has been fine

Check all speaker wiring for shorts, if okay! there is a problem in the audio output stage of the unit or the protection circuit is not working properly. I would suggest a pro to evaluate.

Protect mode

The most common cause of this is that one of the speaker voice coils is shorted or the wiring to one of the speakers is shorted. Disconnect the speakers one at a time and see if the amp goes out of protect, if no change you have a shorted output circuit in the main amp section.

My kenwood mp3 player goes into protect mode, why is this happening?

you have a shorted speaker wire, bad speaker or a bad output ic inside the unit. check the speaker wires and speakers for possible shorts. if possible you may want to disconnect the speaker wires and see if it still goes into protect. if it goes into protect with no speakers attached you have a bad output ic.

It plays for a couple of seconds and then runs over to protect mode and stays there

usualy means there is a problem with the speakers, they may be wired wrong, short in the wires or the voice coil in the speakers themselves. best way to trouble shoot is to power the amp with no speakers hooked to it, if it only goes ito protect with the speakers hooked to it, the the problem is with the speakers, not the amp.

Protect keeps flashing

Protet mode is a special diagnostic mode that starts when a fault is detected.

When in protection mode the unit is prevented from starting by protection circuit, so to prevent further damage.

Check the speakers and speakers wiring, a contact in speaker wires, or faulty speakers can send the unit in protection.

Try unplugging power cable for one hour or so. then connect cable back and see if you get rid of protect state. Sometimes accumulation of electrostatic charges inside circuit capacitors can kick in protect mode. In that case unplugging the unit from main for some times can get rid of electrostatic charges, and reset circuits by draining power completely.
If that was the problem, you will not get Protect when plugging back power cable.

If you do all the above and still get Protect, then there is a real fault.

In that case the unit may be disassembled and tested to find the fault.

If that is the case I suggest contacting the manufacturer at the number listed on the owners manual, or asking a quote on repair to a local technician.

Stuck in protect mode

Speakers shorted out, blew a fuse. Replace the unit or (cross your fingers and) open up the box and find the blown fuse.

Stuck in protect mode

i believe protect mode is because you have the wrong impedence speakers, they are too low (4 ohm? 6 ohm?) it chols work with 8 ohm speakers
