Your belt has stretched. If there is an adjuster available, via pulley, use it till there is no more adjustment. Otherwise, remove the belt and replace with a new, proper size belt.

I have a 46", 21 HP Craftsman riding mower. The

perhaps it is no oil or too much oil. Check oil level!
If it was too much it would be blowing oil or blue smoke out the exhaust.

HOW TO ADJUST THE CUTTING BLADE TENSION OF THE MOWER BELT.

There is no adjustment on the Craftsman mower belt tension. The tension is maintained by a spring. If the belt is to loose you either have the wrong belt or something is broken like a mandrel housing that holds the fixed pulleys in place.
