THE CAMERA TURNS OFF WHEN I TRY TO TAKE A PICTURE. THE LENS STAYS OUT UNTIL I RECYCLE THE POWER BUTTON. IT SEEMS LIKE IT HAPPENS AFTER A FEW PICTURES HAVE BEEN TAKEN. INSERTING FRESH BATTERIES SEEMS TO HELP BUT THE SAME CONDITION HAPPENS. THE BATTERY VOLTAGE MEASURES LOW BUT THE LOW BATTERY ICON ISN,T SHOWN. COULD THE BATTERY CIRCUIT NOT DISCONNECT ON POWER OFF AND CONTINUE TO DRAIN THE BATTERIES?

Same problem. We have replaced the batteries with new batteries multiple times, and still the camera locks up and turns off. Sometimes it works when we turn it back off and on again, but bottom line - it stops working (powers off) far too often, with no apparent fix.
i have the same problem! even with brand new batteries, in a few minutes the camera low battery meter comes on and the camera shuts off. after testing the batteries with a proper voltometer, they seem to be fully charged. either the camera is draining the batteries very quickly due to a short of some kind or else the camera *thinks* that the batteries are drained even though they really are just fine (which would be a bad sensor, i would imagine)
