162.550 NOAA weather frequency

Are you sure that the frequencies you programmed are active in your area? Try a weather band search (press Func and Svc) to verify that the scanner is working properly. If you receive one or more NOAA weather broadcast channels then you need to visit www.RadioReference.com and check their database for active freqs in your area. If you cannot receive weather then you have an antenna or receiver problem.

First try picking up the NOAA Weather broadcasts. They're transmitted on seven frequencies (162.400, 162.425, 162.450, 162.475, 162.500, 162.525, 162.550) and at least one should be active in your area. To check reception, just press the WX key on your scanner. If you can pick up one or more of the frequencies, you'll know that the scanner is functioning properly. If not, your scanner is likely in need of repairs - a questionable move due to its age.

If the scanner is functioning (receiving the weather band), try a quick RESET. use a paperclip or pen point to press the recessed RESET button on the back of the scanner.

Make sure that you have programmed local active frequencies into the scanner. For a comprehensive database, and a lot of other useful scanning information, visit:

After all of the above, if you are receiving weather but no local transmissions, I recommend that you try an external antenna.

Weather frequencies are factory programmed into the PRO-2018. Just press the weather button to start scanning them. You can also program one or more manually if you wish. For a list of NOAA weather broadcast frequencies, follow this link:

The NOAA weather frequencies have constant broadcasts, so your scanner "locks" onto them. The only ways to prevent this are to either delete the weather frequency or lock it out. To delete, just program the frequency "0.0" (zero point zero) into the channel. To lock it out, press the L/O key while on the weather freq.

Do you still receive NOAA weather frequencies? Sounds like your local agencies have switched from simplex/standard frequency operation to trunking. I suggest you visit www.RadioReference.com to view the latest on active frequencies and systems in your area.

Try tuning known frequencies, such as the NOAA weather channels, to verify the working condition of your scanner. If it picks them up, you don't have your local police system/frequencies programmed properly. If there's no reception, even on NOAA, you have an antenna or receiver problem that may need professional attention.

You didn't mention the scanner model, your location, or any specifics that could could help focus in on the problem, but here are some general guidelines for scanning:

1. Make sure that the scanner powers on from either AC power or batteries and that you have a proper antenna connected..
2. Check basic operation by turning the volume about halfway up and then rotating the SQUELCH control in both directions. You should hear a loud hissing noise. If you cannot hear anything while doing this the scanner is in need of professional repair.
3. Check scanner reception by programming a NOAA Weather frequency. 162.550MHz is the primary in most areas, but 162.400, 162.475, 162.425, 162.450, and 162.500 are other possibles). If you receive weather broadcasts on one of these frequencies, the scanner is working. If not, it probably needs professional repair.
4. If it passes the above tests, you need to make sure that you've programmed the right frequencies into the scanner. These will vary by location, and for a comprehensive database of active frequencies in your area, visit: www.RadioReference.com

I am not aware of any computer receiver ported for USB connection capable of 162.550 MHz; almost all are regular FM band. There are however amateur/ham radio equipment that could be interfaced with the PC that covers 136 to 174 Mhz.

If your requirement is to be able to monitor NOAA weather broadcasts, it might be simpler to use Internet Radio/audio streaming. NOAA addresses this particular issue here and here among others.
