Some keys not working

My typewriter is fairly new and was working perfectly until a day or two ago when I think I accidentally hit a key which changed it somehow. Now I cannot type the keys 5,6,u,i,k or l. When I tried to print the demo, I discovered that my Backspace key does not work at all. Someone told me that I had hit something that took it out of the English mode. My User guide does not refer to this. There is an answer to a similar prob in your troubleshoot column which states to hold the code key and keyboard key at the same time. I have nothing marked keyboard key.

There is no way that I can get beneath the keyboard. It is all encased in plastic. I don't believe my problem is as simple as stuck keys. It is somehow connected to the "code" key. How do I set everything back to the manufacturer's setting?

I had our computerrepairman openmy tupewriter case and we did clean the back of the keyboard and the contact points as you suggested. It did not correct my problem. Is there another way to get back into the English Mode other than using a keyboard key, which I don't seem to have?

Did you get my last comment posted on Nov. 16 after I cleaned the keyboard?

The previous advice was not helpful. I need to reset my machine back to the manufacture's settings.

Thank you for your help but none of the solutions that you offered solved my problem. I finally gave up and took it to an establishment here that repairs typewriters. I took a printout of all of my transactions with you which he ignored. He told me immediately that the problem had to be one of two things, either the motherboard or the membrane that encases the controls for the keyboard. The membrane was the lesser of the two evils so he tested it first on another machine. Thankfully, that was it. He just happened to have 1 in stock and installed it right away. That solved my problem.

Mele Kalikimaka and Hau'oli Makahiki Hou to all of you.

My Smith-Corona Coronet electric typewriter will not type capital letters.

It sounds like it needs a service, the locking mechanism is not working, way up the cost of a service vs the price of a new one most people use Digital Devices these days.

I just got a typewriter (I think it's a Royal #10, circa 1933) and it was working perfectly, but then I hit the margin release key (I think this is the last thing I did) and now all of the hammers only go...

The mech that locks the keys at the right margin did not return to position after margin release. Probably sticky with age. Tough to talk you through but it needs to be cleaned and lightly lubed.

My keys have locked. How do you unlock them?

If any of the keys are stuck in the down position, it will lock out the entire keyboard so that none of the keys will work.
One think you can try, is turn the typewriter upside down, and hit the bottom of the unit (right above the keyboard). See if there anything that falls out besided dust. Also hit ALL of the keys. Each and every one of them just to make sure non of them are stuck down.
Try this a couple of times, and see if it helps any.
Good luck.

Every key I press chirps. Don't know how to turn it off.

I believe you have turned on the "clicker" press and hold the code key and and press the "s" key
