Depends.
There are doors that control air flow and temp. Some are moved by vac and some use small electric motors depending on which door and if you have manual or automatic climate control.
You would need to take the trim panel off under the dash and probably open the glove box all the way to be able to see the components. The one that controls air flow is probably stuck or otherwise not moving.

Defrorstores stay on ,try to change to floor, ac, heat vent ,deforstores still on 1995 thunderbird lx blower motor works great.

Some cars use vacuum from the engine to open and close the doors that direct the air to different positions. It is possible that the vacuum line to the controls is cracked or disconnected.

2002 ford explorer AC and heat blowing in dash, but very weak from the vents

On the motorcraft parts web site, you can blow up
a picture of the HVAC Blend Door Motors & locations,
as well as part numbers

You can get failed motor from Amazon

With knowing where the motors are located, try switching
the air flow modes manually, to see what positions do not work

Then you know what motors to replace

I also have professional scan tool software & can see the codes
for the motors in enhanced data.

The-- Vent Blend Doors-by name

Defrost-up top
Cabin -the vents as you say in the middle & on the sides
Floor
Recirculate-under the glove box
Blend Door -under the dash on your print

1996 Ford Thunderbird LX - AC/Heating A few months back I had my AC recharged (At the time my heating still worked) and it worked fine for awhile, but about a month after that I would turn the defrost on...

hi ,look under your dash near the blower and find a 4 or 5 wire plug going in near the blower, unplug it and remove the screws holding it in place ,pull it out ,it will be about half a cigarette packet in size when youve got it out in your hand ,this is most likely your problem part ,its a heater resistor ,it controls your fan speeds,it should be a white chalky resistor or an alloy heat sink type ,they come in 2 ways as i've stated, phone a ford specialist junkyard or auto wrecker or a new ford dealer and give them the part number it has on it and your thunderbird specs or ID numbers and you should be able to locate a replacement without too much bother .

I'm afraid you have the deluxe system,my friend. It has 2 electronic circuit boards that may be going bad. Very expensive unless you can find used or aftermarket.
I hope it's just the blower motor, but I had the other thing happen and I had to wire around it,losing my AUTO temp and blower control. don-ohio

AC/Heat/Defrost inoperable

Chanses are its either the blend door motor quit working or the controls ( temp., selector, blower) in dash are bad, my 95 did the same thing i chg. the blend door motor thinking it was that, but it turned out to be the controls in the dash, 5 minutes work and 140.00 later it was fixed.

Can't change air flow direction on ac/heater control. Only blows up to windshield.

It will be a cable that will be disconnected. or broken. Youll have to take some of the dash apart to see the cable and follow it to the switch. Dont be affraid to take some things apart and when you cant see, use a mirror to help you see behind the dash. work the control and watch the action. You will fix this dont get frustrated. good luck
