Question about Generac Generator 15000 Watt 15kw

1 Answer

Why is there no output?

Has less than 150 hours although 11 years old. Motor runs great propane but shuts off every 15-18 seconds. Checked murphy switches oil & temp and they are fine. Notice generator is not putting out any current during run times. Unit is on my shop bench with outer case removed but still functional. Starts right up every time. We live rural on a ranch

Hi Craig Hayes, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?

Thank's Pontio. When engine runs and I run a 12 volt power lead to the generator it produces about 30 volts AC. Unit sits unused for extended periods of time. It may only get used once to a dozen times a year depending on weather. If there are any specific questions you might have I will do my best to answer them. We are expecting a severe winter and I am trying to get this online before that.

You need to determine if it is a Brushed or Brushless generator and follow the tests on the link below. (You will locate the brushes on the end of the alternator in a 12o'clock position if they are fitted).

SOURCE: unit shuts down from overspeed fault

The engine throttle control is out of adjustment. It needs to be set based on the generator frequency
(60 Hz).

SOURCE: Generac 4456 does not start on power loss

I install and work on these everyday. If you hooked up the transfer switch you probable have a control wire wrong. check the utility power sense wire. That lets it no when to start in auto. it could be a relay or fuses. or a control board.

I have not seen yor generator in practice, but saw some pictures of it.

As it is an older model, but it is not rare for modern generators too, when they stay a lot of time (3 years is a good lot of time), they lose thier magnetism.

In order to build the magnetic field up again you can connect for a short time (1 - 3 seconds) by a working motor, a 12 V battery to the field terminals, + and - respected. A series diode 10 - 25A to battery can stop the built up field voltage to overcharge the battery.

Tip

Make your Lithium Laptop Battery last longer.

Hello folks,

Although I usually offer advice on backing up files or recovering them, I have been asked a lot lately how my 3 year old laptop still runs 1:45mins on a standard battery when many peoples 1-2 year old laptops can barely last an hour.

Simply put, most people do one of two things wrong. Both are common misconceptions and easy to remedy. First I've heard countless people tell me they pop the battery out of their laptop and toss it in the desk drawer until needed, often months. Second I have been told by more people than I can count that they leave their laptop plugged in 24/7 for most of the year.

Bottom line, although popping it out and leaving it in the drawer is less harmful to it's lifespan, both ideas are wrong.

The shelf life of most unused lithium batteries is shorter when unused than ones being used properly. The lifespan of a battery that is constantly being trickle charged is even shorter.

Most batteries in modern laptops are 4-6 cells, designed to give about 2 hours of charge and should last 3-5 years with charge life starting to degrade in the third year.

A "stored battery" has only 3 years of shelf life due to extended times sitting discharged and one that is trickle charged 24/7 may burn out in as little as a year.

Many laptop manufacturers have taken measures to improve this but ultimately the best thing for your battery is to use it. If you currently run you laptop plugged in 24/7, unplug it every night after you shut it off, then when you start it in the morning, let it run an hour before plugging it back in. This will give the battery both down time and exercise.

If your battery is in a drawer somewhere for safe keeping, put it back in the laptop, run it down then charge it over night and run it down then recharge it one more time. Store it back in the drawer charged and repeat the cycle at least once a month.

These tips will help drastically improve you batteries performance over time. My 3 year old laptop only ever got 2 hours of battery life and still gets 1:45 with no power saving measures, give it a try.

Dell inspiron said battery low plug into charger, when plugged in charger light goes out and laptop will not power on, why?

Remove the main battery from the laptop and try power, if it works the battery is bad, if no change the charger needs to be checked for proper voltage. Since your laptop is less than a year old you should have warranty for up to the year, check this asp and find your paperwork should verify.

It starts and heats up after 20 minutes cuts off and makes sound like it wants to start. then shuts off completely and starts back in about an hour for 20 minutes and cuts off.

You have a bad motor there is a safety feature built into the motor to where when it gets hot it will shut off so it wont start a fire. After the motor cools off in the time frame you listed it will come back on but repeat the same thing all you can do is have the motor replaced by a qualified service technician or buy a quality used machine or a new one if the dryer is 10 to 15 years old not worth putting a motor in it will run $125 to $150 for just a new motor but sorry for the troubles.

Starter/solenoid prob?

Replace the MAF sensor. The starter is overheating due to cranking excessively. It has noyhing to do with the engine staying running. The MAF sensor is located as the first sensor out of air cleaner. It controls the fuel. Good luck and have a safe trip.

Inefficient (big, yellow flame) on wall propane heater, using up propane too fast

A clue to what could be wrong is that you mentioned it took 10 minutes for the pilot to go out. It could be your gas valve. Get a technician in to check your gas pressure both before the gas valve and after. Have them check it as the water heater is running.

Frequent interruptions of washer

This is most likely the brushes on the motor. Intermittently failing due to wear and tear. I *could* be the motor but the brushes are very cheap in comparison.

On most washers the brushes are < £20. Time to fit is less than 0.5 hours.

You have three options

1/ If you are or know someone who is very technical and confident - once you have the right parts should be able to install them. (Unlplug the unit before touching!!!)

2/ If you have a service contract use it, they should provide parts and fix.
3/ A service engineer is your last option - say £90 callout + parts. (On certain washer units parts are free up to five years old - but you have to pay the call out fee)

Please dont forget to rate me, thanks!!
