Try unplugging the power and the phone jack for a couple minutes and then reconnect.

Line will not diconnect

Try to power cycle the phone system by removing power and waiting two minutes then plug it in again. This should clear the problem.

We used to have a guy come in whenever we had phone problems but he retired. One of my co-workers somehow tried to transfer a person to one of our other locations but in the process have put lines 1 and 5...

When you transfer a call from the outside to an outside place, it will use two external lines for the duration of the call. Sounds like there the PBX is not configured for "disconnect supervision," (DS) meaning that it can't detect when the call finished on either side, so it holds those lines in use. Even if you set DS up on the PBX, the telephone company be sure the lines are programmed for COD (clear on disconnect).

If you do external transfers, you need to set up disconnect supervision on the PBX and COD from the telephone company.

This will probably involve the services of a professional, unless you are comfortable navigating the
internal menus of the PBX.

You can clear the lines by disconnecting the amphenol connector for the outside lines for a few seconds and reconnecting it (which will disconnect all outbound calls) or by rebooting the PBX.

2 lines in use with no-one on them

This can happen if you transfer a call from outside to another outside line, or if somone has their phone set to forward to an outside line (like a cell phone)

Also, if you do not have "Disconnect Supervision" on your trunks and "Clear on Disconnect" (COD) set by the phone company, this can happen.

This sort of fix is usually done by a telephone professional, but you can do it if you specify the model number of the PBX that you have.

To clear the lines, you either need to reboot the PBX or temporarily disconnect the lines from the PBX.

Light wont turn off

Of course it will. Which one are you trying to turn off? Probably the ried one on top. Press MESSAGE and look at the display. It will tell you why it's lit, and one of the buttons will be CLEAR.
When you clear them all, the light goes out. Since the 7630 has no backlit display, it can't be that one. If it's an extension that is not equipped, you'll press PROGRAM the lit button, and CLEAR or (IIRC) TRANSFER and STORE.

How's that work for you?

Avaya Partner line always lit

If the line button is lit then something within the system has picked it up. If the phone is a multiline set, the line 1 light on the set that is using the line will show green. The line could also be held by either a cordless phone on the system or the voicemail system. The easiest way to clear the line (if the held set isn't apparent) would be to cycle down the power to the phone system for a moment. That will clear the line if its held by the voicemail

I have a 1994 s10 zr2. 4 low works but 4 high does not.

encoder motor, but make sure when your button is pushed or switched to 4 hi that it either blinks or shows some kinda light, this is a poor mans way to make certain that the electrical portion is trying it's part but the encoder internal reistat is not giving the correct position to the response

No ringer could well be a setting and light on 2nd line means their is No 2nd line and most 2 to 4 lines phones at least require 2 active lines for the system to work correctly

I am making the assumption that only line 1 has caller-ID. Both of my suggestions require services on the phone lines themselves, and not thru the phone system.
  1. Line 1 needs features on the line to allow three-way calling. Then you would hit the Recall key after answering to send a Flash to the Central Office to dial the 2nd number. This takes the transfer away from the phone system and puts it on the CO. This requires more time and effort on the staff answering phones, and if a calls comes in while this is in progress, it's going to roll over to another number in the hunt sequence anyway.
  2. Get Caller-ID on all lines.
