Could our Dish remote control be causing our picture size problems? The ends of our picture are cut off. We've used the TV remote to change the size but all of those options are still too big.

We haven't upgraded to the HD package from Dish Network yet. Would that also cause problems? I know using the TV remote does not offer the correct size. Thank you for your help.

The ends of the picture on most non hd will be cut off because they are made for the old tvs which don't have the same aspect ratio as the theatre screen shaped flatscreens.

What is DISH Solo DVR VIP 612 Limited Mode?

You can program your remote control in Limited Mode to keep from accidentally changing the channel on your TV or VCR and causing a snowy or blue screen.

  • When the remote control is in Limited Mode for TV mode, you will only be able to use POWER, MUTE, and VOLUME functions for your TV.
  • When the remote control is in Limited Mode for VCR mode, you will only be able to use POWER and the VCR functions for your VCR.
Note: Limited Mode is not used with amplifiers (AUX mode).

I hope that helps.

Do you use a satellite dish or cable? There are 2 different ways to control picture size. One is through the TV itself but there is sometimes also a control through the dish. For DISH network it is format on the remote. You may want to check if that setting is set to zoom or a setting like that. If it is, the TV control of the picture won't change anything. Email me back with more details if this doesn't solve your problem.

We would be happy to help get that fixed. It sounds like you may be in the incorrect screen format. Press the * located below the number 7 on the DISH Network remote control. Cycle the formats to determine the screen format that fits best.

We hope that this fixes it for you. Thanks so much for choosing DISH Network!

I have changed the screen size to 16 x 9. There is black space at the top and bottom of the screen. What do I do to correct this?

Hi welcome to Fixya,
Presently there are 16 formats (sizes) transmitted and you may need to hit a button to show a full screen sometimes on some channels. The format , aspect or size buttons are on both the TV remote and any cable / dish remote you have . set the TV to full or 16x9 if using a cable / dish box, then set the box to the stretch mode and the picture should be full, there may also be a zoom setting that will fill the picture but may cut off the edges.
Respond with more details or try the suggested settings
Thanks
Roety

Picture too large for screen

It appears that on this television you can only adjust the picture size when you are using the twin picture feature. You must adjust the picture size with your other remote control. Since I do not know whether you are connected to a cable box or a satellite tv box or a blu ray player or a DVD player I cannot be very specific. On your other remote control you should had an hd zoom button, aspect, format, ratio, #, or etc. Those buttons change the picture size. The other factor determining picture size is the resolution the equipment connected to your tv is set to. This tv supports 1080i but you should also try setting the connected equipment to 720p or 480p or 480i. Also the connected equipment may be connected to your tv in two places so make sure you are on the correct selection using the tv video button on the Sony remote.

Picture too large for screen

If the television is connected to a cable box such as Time Warner's HD box, the picture mode can be changed by pressing the '#' on the cable box's remote keypad (where the channel numbers are). This cycles the picture between zoom, normal, and stretch which could be cause of your problem.
