Anyone on here have any experience with the nova fidelity X12 cd ripper and network media server and player? It’s working but when ripping cds it comes up with read errors however plays cds no bother,...

I guess you meant ripping store bought CDDA, ;discs. right>?
compact disk-Digital Audio, disks as see in WALFart. music department. right?
first off CD players can skip error playing CDDA will try to play even with scratches, and the data is repeated if you read the spec, on CDDA, but a scratch that is long in the direction of the spin
that will be BAD DATA! and if you rip a CD , it will not like scratches at all. this is COMMON.
Hint bad disks don't rip.

you have 5 choices. (I think I got them all)
A new CDDA disk, with no scratches., duh factor 1:
B: have the disk professional polished, (yes this is a service)
C: try a new CD DISK DRIVE, in your PC, some work better with scratches, or buy a portable CD/DVD USB player it may work better.

D: try a 2nd PC for same reasons of C:

E: try other ripping APPS< some may work better with scratched CDs./? many are free, costs zero to try.

HOW to Recover Data from Scratched CD's

HOW to Recover Data from Scratched CDs

All CD or DVD are always get some scratches when you use or even if your carefully using it,there's time that accidentally make some scratch in it.this tip is a painless techniques on how to create a full working CD from the scratched one. I have personally tested this and had fixed a CD that would not read data at all. This tip works best with small unreadable scratches, as some hard scratches are too deep and loose the data permanently.

Requirements:

1:Alcohol 120% software [or similar]
2:Cooking oil
3:Small piece of cotton
4:Dry cleaner paper

Follow this simple steps to fix a scratched CD for repair purposes:

In step one you must do some preparation work on the CD. Begin by wetting the cotton with water. Begin to clean the CD in a vertical motion; three firm wipes shall be sufficient. Dry the CD with the dry cleaner paper.

Using another piece of cotton, apply oil to the CD surface. Be sure to do this with caution and not overuse oil. After a through cleaning, dry carefully. Particles from the oil will stay on the micro surface of the scratch. It appears that the oil helps the laser of the CD/DVD driver
to read the surface again.

After downloading and installing Alcohol 120% software, run the program and select to create an ISO - image making wizard. Attempt to read the CD drive and test if the program can read the Alcohol 120% software is recommended for this, as it is known to recover data more efficiently than other ISO software.

If a successful read is obtained, I recommended creating a new CD immediately. Copy all the data from the CD to the hard drive or create an ISO of the CD for immediate use. With a favorite burning utility, burn the ISO or data onto a new CD.

How to Fix a Scratched CD

Clean the disc. Even if a CD isn’t actually scratched or scuffed, dust, oil, and other surface contaminants can prevent it from playing properly. Thus cleaning the disc should always be your first move. Ads by Google

  • Run warm water over the damaged disc to remove dust.
  • If there is stubborn dirt or grease on the disc, gently rub it with your finger while you are washing it, and use a gentle detergent or liquid soap (with the water) or rubbing alcohol (in place of water). Any time you rub or wipe a CD, you should do so by starting at or near the center of the disc and rubbing straight outward toward the edge to prevent further scratching.
  • Shake the water off and let the disc air-dry (do not dry it with a towel or cloth, and don't sun-dry it either).
  • 2Try to play the disc. Many times a good cleaning is all that is needed. If, however, problems persist after cleaning, try to play the disc in a different CD player. Some players handle scratches better than others; computer CD drives and car stereos tend to be the best.
  • 3Burn a new disc. If you can get the CD to work in one CD player - especially your computer’s - but not in others, try burning a new disc. The CD burner on your computer may be able to read the CD well enough to produce a perfect copy. You may wish to try this even if the CD doesn’t play correctly on the computer.
  • 4Locate the scratch. Actually repairing the disc will be easier if you can figure out where the offending scratch is. Visually inspect the CD’s playing surface for scratches or scuffs. Scratches that run perpendicular to the CD’s spiral - that is, those that run generally from the center to the rim - may

MY TENNIS CD DO NOT PLAY

Hi so first off all you need to figure out if it is your wii or the actual cd not working.1. Start by trying to use another disc, if that disc doesn't work too and no others one then it is your console.2. If that does work then its the cd.3. If it the cd then check for scratches or wear and tear on the cd. This could cause the cd to not work, if thats the case you can look to buy scratch treatment like this one:http://www.amazon.com/Via-Market-Scratch-Scratch-Repair-Treatment/dp/B003KIOZMS
    4. Also make sure you are putting it in right, if you put it in wrong the cd will not be detected.5. Just overall check the cd for wear and tear if there is none and you put it in right then the cd should work fine if your console is, but I have gotten a defective cd, if thats the case take it up with the maker of the game.
p.s I noticed you said cd, is it a cd or game because only games work on wii's, not cds

    Scratched disk

hi, this is a common problem with all video games consoles that take cd and the same for music cds.
Most people throw them out when they get scratced and start jumping or in your case wont load the game.
The good news is you can buy a cd polishing kit which polishes the scratches out of the disk.

How it works is you place the cd into a like similar to a cd box but it has three sanding wheels then when you put the disk in you then turn a small handle and the three polishing pads spin round and polish the scratches out of the cd getting the disk to work again.

The problem is finding some where that sells them i know Maplin stock them and sells them but if you have trouble finding anywhere that sells them then the best thing to do is type in in your browser "cd scratch remover" then this will list a load of sites that sell this product.
Its not expensive to buy and its well worth getting one as you can use it loads of times so if in the future you have more problems with scratches then its worth getting one.

Hope this is the help you was looking for i know they work as i use one myself for my ps2 and music cds that get scratched.

Let me know how you get on or if you have any questions.

On any cd the bottom part that the laser reads doesnt have the information and the data on it it is burned into the top part so as you look at a cd and where the writing is on top of the cd if this is scratched and you can see through the disk then it cant be repaired but if its the bottom part that the laser reads from then removing the scratches will solve your problem.
The scratches cause the laser to miss that bit of data thats under the scratch so polishing these out will be the same as having a new cd.

PS2 GTA: San Andreas Disk Problems

this shows that your cd is already damaged, the scratches might have hit the critical part. you said that some other cd's of yours have also scratches these are presumably minor scratches. its better if you purchase anew one. a damaged cd with deep scratches can damage the lense of your cd rom if you continously use this it would soon permanently damaged the lens
