Hello, Easiest way to determine if bluetooth is on or not is in your system tray, The bottom right where the icons are, you will have the generic bluetooth icon (looks like a sideways infinity symbol with a blue oval) Keep in mind it is very dangerous to leave bluetooth on, and it kills your battery! Heres an ehow on how to trouble shoot if your bluetooth is on and how to activate and deactivate it!

How do I enable bluetooth on my latitude E5500?

The best solution is to use your Service Tag number located underneath your Dell Latitude E5500 and go to http://support.dell.com/. By keying in your Service Tag number, or using the Detect My Product button the website should tell you what hardware is installed in your Laptop.

Another option is to go to the BIOS (Reboot your laptop and Press F1) to look through the settings for Bluetooth.

If my memory serves me, these models could support Bluetooth but did not include the Bluetooth module. The best bet is to go to the website listed above and check to see what Dell says you have.

I cann't enable my blue tooth device dell latitude e5500

Normally, if you can't enable your bluetooth module, it means one of two things:

1. Your laptop doesn't have a bluetooth module installed, even though you might think it does.

2. Your laptop doesn't have the correct bluetooth device drivers and bluetooth manager software installed.

If you post your Dell service tag from the laptop, I can tell you if your laptop came with a bluetooth module.

I have acer 4730z laptop.

The Acer Aspire 4730 models DO NOT include any bluetooth hardware. The button is there because it shares much of its setup and hardware with the 4930 models which do have bluetooth. So, as the machine tells you, there is no bluetooth device to turn on and off. Check the specs from Acer's website and you will see no mention of bluetooth. You will need to add a bluetooth device. The simplest would be one that plugs into your USB port. Other than that little issue, the 4730 is a very nice notebook for the price.

Bluetooth

Bluetooth isn't installed on this computer if F8 didn't work. You will have to purchase one. Several years ago Toshiba was putting Bluetooth drivers and controls into their notebooks but not hardware to run it. It was a stupid idea and it really lead to a lot of confusion. If you get a new bluetooth transmitter/receiver remove their drivers as well. F8 won't work on the device unless you purchase one from Toshiba.

Bluetooth

I have never seen a laptop that had a button to turn the Bluetooth on or off - usually the button is to turn the wireless network connection (802.11b/g, or WiFi) on and off. When you turn it on, it tells you there are no networks available since you do not have a wireless router or access point. But if you were someplace where a wireless connection is available, like Starbucks, it would show the connection and offer to allow you to connect.

The Bluetooth is normally turned off and on by software, probably some icon in your tray (next to the clock) on the taskbar.
