Microwave quit working so I reset the breaker but still had no power. Outlet works for other appliances so it must be the fuse?

It depends on the type of oven. On countertop models, remove the outside cover. On over the range units, remove the control panel. You may have to remove the air deflector on the top first in order to gain access to the control panel screws.

You have a failed membrane keypad.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

If you would like to have us do this repair for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your model number) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Microwaves must be serviced by technicians due to the inherent dangers involved in repairing these appliances. Internal capacitors can retain a lethal electrical charge even though the unit is completely unplugged. A microwave radiation leakage test must be performed on the unit following any internal component repair.

SOURCE: we have magic chef Over the Range Microwave Oven Model: MCO153U. Microwave was dead and no power

Bad door switches normally don't cause fuses to fail. Typically there's 2 of them wired in series with each other so if one of those switches fail to turn off power the other one will when the door is opened.
There are a number of components that can cause a fuse to open; HV diodes, capacitors and fans, to name the most common culprits, and require the knowledge and safe use of a volt-ohm meter to efficiently find the problem.

Take the body cover off and locate the regular glass fuse near the control panel wiring and make sure the fuse is good. A blown circuit breaker is the first clue that the fuse could have also blown.

I have rescued tons of microwaves for the lack of a 50 cent fuse.

I have a Sharp Carousel model R-1874-T. It suddenly stopped working. No lights are on. I checked the outlet and there is power coming there. Is there a way to reset the microwave?

Steve,
You probably have a blown fuse.

Unplug your microwave and turn it around and remove the screws holding cover on and then remove the cover. Look for where the power cord goes into the back of the unit and follow the black wire from the cord to where it ends. It should stop an either a circuit board or a fuse holder. Make sure that you replace the fuse with the same amperage fuse as what you take out. You will find the amp rating stamped on one of the silver collars on each end of the fuse. Good luck!

GE MICROWAVE MODEL JVM1750DM1WW NO POWER AT ALL. HAVE ALREADY CHECKED THE OUTLET AND CHECKED THE BREAKER. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WORKING.

If the microwave control panel doesn't light up, then your fuse is blown. unplug the microwave. unscrew the vent grill, (2) screws at the top of the microwave. then you should see 1 screw holding the control panel. after removing that screw, gently push up then out. there should be a metal plate on top of the control panel. remove that plate and the fuse will be in that opening. replace fuse and microwave should begin working.

No electricity Clock is off nothing works

Plug something else into the outlet and see if the device works if it doesn't then reset the breakers. If the other device does work then the microwave is bad and needs replacement.

Microwave won't turn on. Seems like it is not getting power. I checked breaker. I am looking for a fuse. You know where one is? It is a GE Spacemaker(2 yrs old) model # JVM1440WH04

  • Make sure that the microwave is plugged into a grounded outlet. It must be a 3-prong outlet.
  • Make sure the clock is set.
  • Check to see if a programming sequence was entered. Sometimes improper programming or a program sequence such as delay start can cause the touch panel to be non-responsive. Unplug microwave or turn off house circuit breaker for 30 seconds. Plug back in, or reset circuit breaker, and try reprogramming unit.
  • Check the house circuit breaker or fuse box. If the microwave is DEAD and there is no display and nothing works- the problem could be a blown fuse or tripped breaker.

Same problem - panel out - no light

Open and remove outside panel. Inside next to the plug in (power supply) there will be a glass fuse. Look inside the fuse and see if you can see a thin metal wire running across the entire glass tube. If it does not touch end-to-end, then it should be replaced.
If the fuse is good, then you may have faulty power supply or even bad circuit board.

Has no power

If your microwave oven doesn't seem to work at all, check these: Fuses Usually, when your microwave oven doesn't work it all, the internal fuse (thermal fuse) is blown. This fuse protects both you and the oven. When it blows, you need to have a qualified appliance repair technician replace it. Door switch If the fuse isn't the problem, check the door hooks and the door-release button. When these are broken, the door switch doesn't activate, so the oven can't work.

NO POWER

Inside the microwave is a fuse. If you can, try plugging the microwave into a different outlet (use an extension cord). If it does not power on, you have likely blow the fuse. If you are technical, you may look into replacing the fuse yourself (you will have to remove some parts of the microwave exterior to get to the fuse). Otherwise, if no longer in warranty, you will need to have a shop or handyman replace fuse.
