I have a PSP 2000, the UMD reader stopped working so i installed custom firmware about a week ago, and everything was perfectly fine. The last game I got was GTA Vice city Stories and after playing it for an hour or so it suddenly turned off. I thought the battery had run off so I plugged it to charge it, and when i came back to turn it on again, this happened. I haven't been able to turn it on since then. I have tried turning it on without battery using the AC adapter but the same happens. Also the battery charges normally when plugged in and I don't have a Pandora Battery. Please tell me how can I fix this?!
Marco, It does sound however, that the battery took a **** at just the wrong time. It happens sometimes with no notice at all. Pull the battery and see if it's bulging in any way. The simple fix is to simply replace the battery. If this is the issue, it's fixed. If not, then you have a much bigger issue. With those generations of PSP's, the battery must maintain 3-5% charge to even turn on. You can't even update the firmware with out at least 20% in the battery! Frustrating, I know! ^^ Good luck, and I hope this helps.
Testimonial: "Thank you very much for your reply Matt, but the battery is just fine i think, it isn't bulging, and when i take it off and try to turn the PSP on with the AC adapter the same thing happens, green light flashes for less than a second and goes off. I don't know what's wrong, it may have something loose inside, because a few days ago i tried turning it on again and it worked. I was able to play just fine, but the next day the thing wouldn't turn on again. This has happened 2 times now."
Marco, if the PSP is doing as you described, then it's obviously something inside. It's acting like the old consoles when it couldn't read the cartridge. Something inside, at just the right time, either makes the connection and works, or it don't turn on. I had a TV that did the same thing. It turned out to be a bad diode on the board inside. The ones protected by ceramic covers that limit the voltage through the circuit. This may be your issue too, though it will be difficult to pin point.

Ms Piggy....
It sounds like your PSP is "bricked". Have you upgraded the firmware or added custom firmware? If so, you'll need a Pandoras battery/memory card to repair. Try ebay for those.
Good luck
SOURCE: downloaded games won't work
the items you downloaded is not compatible, the system file is not supported, you must go to the download station, and ask what is the better system for PSP
SOURCE: psp wont boot up with pandora battery
u should probly get a hack data on the memory stick and insert the memory stick with the battery make sure that only the hack data is on the memory stick
SOURCE: psp will hung up when playing Gta vice city stories
Are you playing the GTA Vice City Story from the Memory Stick or from the UMD.
If you are playing the GTA from the memory stick, I assume you have a customized firmware (CFW). Try to upgrade your firmware to higher version.
If you are playing the GTA from the UMD, update your PSP firmware.
