Rostit's advice is correct. // If you do not have another TV, trying plugging in your Satellite receiver using ''Composite'' (_not_ ''RCA'') cables. You will get 720P video quality with that type of connection. Most people cannot tell the difference between 1080P and 720P. Furthermore, Cable and Satellite receivers only give you a 720P signal anyway. It is your DVD and/or BlueRay players that are giving your ''true'' 1080P signals. They too will (usually) work with a ''Composite'' connection. It depends on how many ''Composite'' connections your TV will accept. At the very least, you should be able to connect your Satellite receiver to the TV via Composite cables. (And I would bet real money you will be happy with the quality of the picture on your TV... So much so that you'll just leave it that way rather than buy a new TV). Ps... You can also buy a box that allows you to plug in several devices via composite cables, and then only one composite cable set needs to go to the TV, and then you use the box (which even has a remote) to switch between devices. // Best of luck... -Gregg

Surge protectors do not work very well. They dont really stop mildly high voltages. If you can plug the Directv receiver into another TV and it works, then you have a bad digital board in your TV.

Performing a power reset
1. Turn off the television.
2. Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
3. Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
4. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
NOTE: If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
5. Turn on the television.
How to establish an HDMI connection between a TV and other device.
Follow the steps below if the HDMI® connection between your TV and other device is not working:
1. Make sure both the TV and other device are turned on.
2. While turned on, unplug the power cords for the TV and device from the electrical outlet.
3. Disconnect the HDMI cables from the TV and other product.
4. Wait 60 seconds.
5. While the HDMI cables are disconnected, plug the power cords back into the electrical outlet.
6. Turn on the TV.
7. Re-connect the HDMI cables.
8. Turn on the HDMI-connected product.

The TV should now detect the HDMI signal from the connected device and operate normally. If there is still a problem, disconnect the HDMI cable from both products and then reconnect it in the opposite direction. In some situations this has been reported to resolve connection issues.

Surge associated with power outage can make disasters in refrigerators. You need a power protector for refrigerators.
Now, what already is damaged, should be repaired by an authorized techician.
For protector, you can do a search; typical return is this one

Do i need a power adaptor for my tv

it should use the standard outlet plug that came with it. Each brand has different types of plugs if yours doesn't have one. If you don't have one, amazon is a cheap place to find cords. If you're asking whether the tv should be plugged into a multi-outlet surge protector. Yes, it is safer to protect your tv from power surges and power outages with such a device.

TV won't turn on

there is a surge protector on the main power board this has probably blown. or the main power board fuse or plug fuse. check them one by one. there even may be a secondary fuse in the tv around 3amp witch can blow. it will have red and black lines on it or orange that is the rating of the fuse. surge protector is like a battery shap round with 2 prongs onto the board.

I have a Mitsubishi projection model WS-B55 that is plugged into a surge protector. The power went off for about an hour or an hour and a half this morning, and the power light is flashing. I called...

First, to answer your last question, not all power outages and subsequent surges are created equally nor are all surge protectors. Also, after a power outage where the subsequent surge is so strong that it got past your surge protector and knocks out your TV and it's never done that before... REPLACE YOUR SURGE PROTECTOR.
However, that being said, in my experience it is unlikely that the TV is going to require a technician. Understand that the person that you spoke with in tech Support is not a technician and is reading off of a list of troubleshooting pages that are more extensive then what's in the manual. What the technician is probably not aware of is that your TV, like most home electronics, has a safety failsafe that requires the device to be separated from power completely before doing a system reset
First, after pressing the button it's supposed to flash for about a minute anyway but I'm assuming that after it's done pressing that the TV is still not firing up.
Unplug the TV, let it sit for an hour, plug it back in (to the wall, not the suspect surge protector). If the light is still flashing, press the reset button again and wait for it to stop flashing and attempt to turn it on again. If it doesn't work, unplug the TV, follow the same steps however, let it sit for 24 hours before plugging it back in. That length of time is not common but some sets do require it.
If none of this works, then I would say that it's time to call a technician.

Power Outage Problems Sony Bravia 32" LCD TV

try cycling the power (unplug 2 minutes) and plug in and wait 30 seconds and turn back on. if this doesn't work, could have been a surge, your protector should have saved it, but could have been through cable or something. surge protectors will guarantee no damage for several years, check with the manufacturer maybe they'll cover the repair.

Power outage then wont turn on

contact the power company to see what they will do for you they are responsible for power damage also the surge protection should have replacement warranty. may just be blow caps but take to a service center to have it looked at better yet have a service person come to your home to look into it.
