Don't know what kind if engine you have but many have low oil shut down float switches inside the engine..when operating on hills or side if hills too long the oil will flow to the low side and the low oil switch will pick it up as low oil and shut it down..look for a small wire attached to the crankcase it most likely is that low oil switch..the next time this happens try disconnecting it and tape the end if the wire..try starting and run on the hill..it should not shut Down..just remember it is a safety switch to protect the engine from damage from low oil operation.try running the hills where the oil runs to the wire side of the engine..won't trick the low oil alert...Good luck..

I would agree with the gas cap being the problem. There should be a insert inside the cap which helps with the tap pressure. If this is lost then the engine will run for a few min. and shut off.
There is one other thing and that is the float in the carb bowl. It may be allowing in just enough gas to fill the bowl and then it is sticking. This would account for just enough fuel to run for a brief period and then shut down.

Try putting a jumper wire on the wire going from the engine to the seat. Take that plug and put a wire from one side to the other. Be careful not to cut your feet off when engaging deck.

The oil entered the cyliders when the mower was tipped at a severe angle. It will clear out after you run it for awhile. Check the oil level to make sure it is full. It could even be overfull and this is what caused the smoke. If it starts to run badly, check the spark plug or plugs. They could get "fouled" from the oil. Change the if the are black or covered with oil. It shouldn't have done any damage to the engine.

To me it sounds like the hydro unit has developed internal leaks and the pressure lowers as the oil thins from heat. These trans axles are usually replaced as an unit but some can actually be repaired.call the dealer to see if you can get parts or whether you need to replace the whole thing.I assume you have already tried a new drive belt, tensioner ect. and if so you are down to the trans axle. You may buy some time buy getting rid of the low viscosity oil in the rear end and go to regular hydraulic oil.
