Kia Starts and idles smooth revs great in park seems to run great for a few minutes then stalls and chugs in gear. can get to stay running in park or neutral but wont get any power when in gear.

You'll need to change the distributor, as the distributor shaft oil seal has gone bad. Without sufficient spark, you'll have no power. Don't forget a new cap/rotor.

engine mounts are bad

Replace your MAF, its a little pricey around $280.00 or so but this will clear the code but make sure you have the ECM reprogrammed to perform a "learning" sequence since sometimes the code will not clear even though the vehicle will run like new. This reprogramming will most likely have to be a dealer performed procedure.

idle air control valve is bad replace it. at start up choke control runs till warm up while driving throttle opening controls engine at idle ,the idle air control valve.

I hope you find it. I have a 1993 with the same issues. I'm going to try the ignition control module.

Check for condensation in the distributor cap.

make sure your idle air control motor is working, if you give and hold gas pedal a little will it stay running in drive.

I would suggest a computerised diagnostic to find the fault else it may take forever..

mcdevito75 here, Sounds like the idle speed motor, Ford is known for these idle speed motors going bad, in the later stages the car races like crazy. have your repair shop check this idle speed motor and change it.
