I programmed my cable remote with the 4-digit code shown in the remote's code list so I can turn on the receiver at the same time as the TV and cable box. I thought I had the right code because the receiver turned off when I hit the power button. But when I hit the power button again, the TV and cable box came back on, but not the receiver. I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with the receiver on-off switch, because the receiver remote turns it both off and on. I'm thinking there might be a more up-to-date setup code for this particular receiver, since it's a fairly new model. Is there somewhere to find the setup code for each individual receiver model made by Onkyo? Or do you have any other ideas about what the problem might be? Again, the only remote code I know of for Onkyo receivers (0135), when programmed into my cable remote, allows me to turn the receiver off but not back on. Help!!! Comcast remote witha Onkyo SR-800 HT.Turns it on but will not turn it off.Codes 0135 and 0842 are the only listed codes. Anyone have another code?

Use red numbers for the red OK/Select button remote, grey numbers for grey button remtoes.
Temporarily assign setup code 30842 or 0842 to AUX
1) Tap AUX
2) Press Setup until 2 blinks
3) Enter 30842 or 0842The remote should blink twice
Assign NEC1 IR protocol device 210, subdevice 108, function number 203 to Power (you don't need to understand these numbers)
1) Press Setup until 2 blinks
2) Enter 994 (2 blinks)
3) Tap Setup
4) Enter 00051
5) Tap Power (not All On)
The remote should blink twice
Assign setup code 30135 or 0135 to AUX (this is NEC1, 210.109)

2) Press Setup until 2 blinks
3) Enter 30135 or 0135
The remote should blink twice
Ted/Gump - You nailed it. I don't have a clue what this is doing, but I finally can control my TX-NR616 Onkyou receiver correctly. Thank you.
Ted/Gump: Your fix worked perfectly with my Comcast remote and my Onkyo TX-NR616. I have no idea what you had me do, but bravo!
Ted - thanks a lot! Your fix worked like a charm!

For five code remotes of comcast - 30135 turns it on and 30842 turns it off. Problem is - comcast remotes only have room for three codes - cable, tv and aux. I wish they had a 5 code 5 device remote. This is for the Onkyo SR506.
Same problem with my Onkyo and Comcast (Motorola). There must be better code to use than the one that came with my cable box?

I am experiencing exactly the same issue. I'm ditching the universal remote for my cable box and getting a Logitech Harmony remote instead. At the very least it can learn the power button if there's no pre-programmed code for it.
Same problem here with an Onkyo SR-875 and Comcast remote. Looks like a common issue as many have posted this problem if you search the Net. The only answers I've seen to solve this are to get a universal remote.
I have the same problem! One of the 5-digit codes will turn the receiver on but not off, and the other code will turn the receiver off but not on! I feel like I must be missing something - so close and yet so far! lol
I have a One for all remote and I have used codes 0380, 1531, 1298, 0842. 0842 works it but does not turn it off. I'm in the same boat with the rest of ya'll. I hope somebody has found a solution.
