Right click on “Computer” or “My Computer” in XP. Select Manage and then on the right side select device manager. On the left if you see a yellow exclamation mark next to your drive and were getting any of the above error codes then we have a simple fix.
Go ahead and right click on the CD or DVD drive that has a yellow exclamation mark next to it and select delete or remove.

try to search:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Now that you are at the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} Folder on the right side you will see several entries. right Click and delete the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters. These will be remade once you reboot.

This will try to look for the drivers again..

HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H55N ATA Device doesn't work

That's most likely your upper/lower filters, or drivers acting up.
Try drivers first, as they are easier and faster to fix. Go to device manager under system properties, and uninstall the device and reinstall it.
If it doesn't work delete the upper and lower filters:
Press windows and R keys type in "regedit" and press enter

double click on "computer" on the new window that came up
double click on "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
double click on "SYSTEM"
double click on "CurrentControlSet"
double click on "Control"
double click on "Class"
double click on "{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Hl dt st dvdram gsa t40n ata device error 039

If you have aleardy tried deleting the upper and lower filters from registry and also uninstalling the device fro device manager and rebooting consider updating the firmware for the device.
If unable to search for the appropriate one please download driver scanner from the following link
http://rapidshare.com/files/194341808/Unibluedriverscanner.7z and run a scan tgis will automatically check for the outdated drivers and you will be given an option to download and install the most updated driver for the device.
