This issue has just started after the most recent maintenance done by my dealer. The oil, spark plugs, and filter were changed. There are about 40hrs. on the unit. This issue only happens for the exercise cycle. If I manual start with no load, the unit will hunt trying to hold the 3600 rpms it is supposed to run at. If the unit is loaded this problem goes away and the unit purrs like a kitten. I can smell something like unburnt fuel.
Have the dealer look at it again
I suspect that there is a spring missing from the rod that connects the governor lever to the carby butterfly
It's purpose is to act as a dampener to stop the excesses of the fluctuations on start up
Bill, I sent the info to my dealer technician and will see what he has to say and can check per your input. I also just sent a video of running the unit on manual if that helps. I think I saw in the display 10k+ rpms at one point which is weird because it does not seem to be revving that high by any means. There seems to be a spring still attached to the governor lever you mentioned. Unless there is supposed to be more than one. I was wondering if there might be something wrong with the speed sensor or something like that. The reading on the display seems to be very erratic but the engine is not running that crazy. There is a very strong Gas Smell this last time I ran it. It is hooked up to my Natural Gas line for my house.
Now that you have explained that it is running on natural gas, I suspect that the problem is erratic gas supply to the engine and not a governor problem
I would have the service people back as from your statement of a gas smell and the erratic rpms I think the problem will be in the gas regulator/ converter unit
May have a blockage in the metering jets or diaphragm control
I have now had this issue for about 2 months and the original service guys has stopped answering my questions as he thinks he fixed it with a power magneto wire ground wire. The issue now only takes 1-2 minutes to settle on down at initial start up if not run for while. I have also got a second Service guy involved now and he had me upgrade the gas line from the house to the generator from the incorrect 1/2" pipe to 1" inch and the problem and initial start up is still there but maybe only goes for a minute at the most. His only other thing he said it could be is the solenoid on the gas regulator device on the generator itself. he is suppposedly coming over to fix that soon. Any other suggestions would be appreciated here for sure.

Usually answered in minutes!
Some added info would be the first time after the last time maintenance was done was an exercise cycle and the unit struggled to start for a couple minutes then gave off smoke and finished the cycle but struggled to maintain 3600 rpm. This info was given to me by my wife as I was not there and she did not know what to do.
