Safety system locking out the start switch. Door not closed, mode and timer not set etc.

Microwave ovens are very complex to work on. You may have a defective door sensor, which will prevent the oven from starting. This is the most common issue.

Blown fuse inside the oven. If you can do electrical work, repalce it. I wrapped mine in aluminum foil as a quick fix, as I understand the very high risk of fire and possible death from doing so.

Unfortuneately the keypad control board will need to be replaced.

From your question, I suspect the fault is from the control board of the microwave. This is why some buttons on the the touch-pad are not working.

Have the control board replaced and the buttons that refuse to work will start working again.

i have the same problem.. with the start button, could you resolve yours?

Possible that the pad is not working or a possible failure.

Remove cover after disconnecting , check for dirt/moisture in the cabin, if so wipe clean and dry, check the magnetron and area clean and use an jet air to clean off.
Make sure that the program controller is working if not check power - step down supply, the pads are responding- if not faulty pads- or the door switches, if contact is not through the microwave will not work.
If only the start button is inactive but you are able to set timing then then the start button pad must be worn out.

I have a related problem, my Siemens microwave/oven as soon as I press the start button brings down the fuse. I put up the fuse again, the clock is working, the light inside as well, but as soon as I set the microwave on and press the start button, it brings the fuse down again. Is this a problem with the siemens microwave or with my electrical installation?

I would first suspect the door switches. The door must be shut and the switches must be working before the contoller will let the oven start cooking. See my other answers for a text file on door switch testing and replacement. Once they have been checked, if you still have toruble, please reply back.
