Tone arm only returns to about the halfway point on auto-return.
When it gets to the end of the record, it just drags the tone arm across half way across the record and continues playing from there. Is there anything I can do to fix that?
I have a SL-BD27U.

Tonearm is misaligned. This usually happens when you've moved the unit, or something has fallen on the tonearm, causing it's bearing to be misaligned. This is not an easy fix, and you will more than likely have to take it to a service center to have it repaired and looked at. Good luck!

This is a tough one. There is usually a series of gears that function in unison to make all the magic happens. These gears are usually set in motion by a smaller belt located inside the unit. If this belt has come off or is damaged, your unit will not work. Or, if the gears have cracked, or dried up, same issue.
Suggest taking it to a service center for repair.

There should be a set screw that you can tighten in order to adjust the height return. If you do not have anything like this, perhaps your record is raised too much. How thick is your rubber mat? Do you have any other mats sitting on top of this?

Your tonearm is damaged at the pivoting screw. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to fix this other than replacing your tonearm. The pivoting screw is a cone shape screw - aka conical screw - and this sits on 4 ball bearings, with a very thin piece of sheet metal which keeps the ball bearings in place. If this thin piece of metal is damaged - more than likely indented - it causes this sort of clicking sound you speak of. You will need to have the tonearm replaced, as this cannot be fixed. Or, shall I say, it will cost you more to try and fix the problem than it will to just replace the tonearm:
FIX = 3-6hrs @ $85/hr
or
REPLACE = 1hr @ $85 + $70 (tonearm)
You do the math.
Technics Tonearm can be purchased here, but this is not an easy replacement, and you could do more damage if you are not sure of what your doing. Professional repair is recommended. You can buy the part, then bring it to the service shop.
