The wm3987hw has an internal fuse located on the "power connection noise filter", It's a transformer or something which cleans up the wall-supplied voltage a bit before it touches the expensive electronics.
You might just be able to replace just the fuse, otherwise the whole unit is part#6201EC1006T, about $50.
take the top off the unit (two philips screws on the top back) you will find the power noise filter on the top inside right wall of the unit. it's not terribly involved to do this fix yourself. 20minute job tops.

How can the outlet be fine and no power is getting to the machine? Use a voltmeter and trace the voltage to the control module. The motor is not being energized - u might also want to check the schematic for the machine to look for the items that are in the power flow. If there is a relay that turns juice to the motor it could either be the relay or the device that powers the relay.

WM3987HW

There are two solutions to this problem. 1. The load of clothes is not balnced correctly in the drum/or you are putting too many clothes in the machine. 2. The bearings have worn and have given up. These bearings cost more than the machine too repair as it is a huge job, also, most "technicans" will rip you off. If it is option 2, I recommend buying a new machine(as you can't replace them yourself without all the expensive tools). Buy a machine with the longest warranty and a descent brand. Don't be fooled by buying machine made in ITALY(eg. ARISTON) as Italy make junk these days, they only ASSEMBLED in Italy. Most parts are from Slovenia etc. Made in China is fine with washing machines. best bang for your buck is either SAMSUNG or LG frontloaders.

Few months old WM3987HW won't turn on - seems dead, unplugging and replugging won't work; outlet has power

Hi Rick,

I found your answer to another person's problem with the LG washer/dryer not turning on. We have the same problem. My husband found a piece of plastic near one set of the fuses that looks warped - like it got too hot. Is there any advice you can give? It's a piece next to the box by the main power cord with a metal coil.

The washer will not turn on. It ran a load, but did not finish drying and would not turn on. I have tried to reset it via: unplugging it for a few hours, and spinning the drum, but it still will not turn...

I follow this advice without checking any other components. It was a bit of a costly and timely mistake. Not to say this is not a good solution but before swamping your "control board" (about $99) please check your Filter Assembly aka Noise filter (i got mine from Appliance Parts Pros it was $27.78 much cheaper and it seams like it may be a defect just because they have redesigned the part now.) I am attaching some pic that i took so hope they help u tell if the part that is in your machine is bad or not and to help replace it if needed.8_27_2012_3_54_14_am.jpg8_27_2012_3_54_40_am.jpg8_27_2012_3_54_55_am.jpg8_27_2012_3_55_51_am.jpg8_27_2012_3_56_01_am.jpg8_27_2012_3_56_16_am.jpg8_27_2012_3_56_29_am.jpg8_27_2012_3_56_39_am.jpg

I can't turn on SpinSense on my LG WM3987HW combo washer-dryer. I've tried pressing the button for 3 seconds in nearly every mode, on or off, locked, unlocked, wash, spin, rinse. I've managed to get it on...

I have an earlier version of your machine (WM3988HWA). What I've found is that you can't use the Spinsense feature if you've got the Dry cycle set to go after your wash. I have no idea why they designed it this way!
We run the wash first without setting it to dry, and have no problem turning Spinsense on. I usually hold it down for 3 second after hitting the start button, but you can also do it before you start the wash. When the wash is done, then we start a dry cycle.
This is the main flaw with our otherwise great machine. I posted about it at http://www.fixya.com/ThreadAsker.aspx?thid=1844295 a long time ago but never got any advice.
