Fridge troubleshooting: This is an Amana Side-by-Side Refrigerator/Freezer approximately 8 - 10 y/o. The freezer door was left ajar all night resulting in total loss of cooling. Visual inspection revealed no obvious damge, leaks, or issues. The condensor coils are clean and not blocked. This is the first problem we've had with this appliance. My limited troubleshooting skills resulted in the following after unplugging the fridge for 24hrs, then plugging back-in: Interior lights: On Compressor: On* Condenser fan: On Evaparator fan: Off *After 1 minute 15-30 sec the compressor shuts Off. **Advancing the Defrost Timer shuts down the condensor fan but the defrost heating element does not heat up. My assumptions: 1. Since the compressor and condensor fan will start the quick start capacitor and associated systems are ok. My questions: 1. If the evap fan fails to come on does this inhibit the evap fan from energizing and shut down the compressor? 2. What else would cause these symptoms?
No the evaporator fan not running has nothing to do with the compressor. I would suspect that you are freezing up over the evaporator because the fan is not running and when it ices up the air can not flow through properly therefore causing the refrigerator side to get warmer. Replace the fan and you should be fine. Take the back panel inside the freezer off and see if you are all iced up. If you bare then I would replace the fan . You also said the defrost heater did not come on. That will also cause a freeze up. Possible replacement of the defrost heater may be needed. Good Luck!
