My tiller stopped running.

My Mantis electric tiller hit an 8'x 1/4" piece of electrical conduit that was hidden in the dirt I was tilling. It abruptly stopped and wouldn't run or make any noise indicating that any current was getting to the engine; no buzzing etc. and the circuit breaker didn't pop, I tried another extension cord but no success.

I encountered a similar problem today. I have an *electric* tiller that is only a little over 1 year old, I have only used it for a total of about 5 hours, and today it suddenly stopped--just stopped for no apparent reason. I was tilling fairly soft soil and I was not aware of hitting any kind of obstruction. I confirmed that the outlet power is good, and unplugged the machine and cleaned off the tines, and a while later I noticed hat the fuse switch had popped out. I pushed it back in, but I still have no response from the machine at all.

Mantis electric tiller runs for about 20 seconds then cuts out. Hit circuit breaker, runs then cuts out again and smells like it's burning. Went through all the troubleshooting and no warranty. Help!

It probably smells like it is burning because that is exactly what is happening. Persisting is likely to make things worse, if it is possible for things to be worse.

As the circuit breaker is tripping it is likely the fault is electrical. There probably isn't much electrical to go wrong apart from the motor, a switch and some wiring. A motor fault would seem likely unless the mechanical drive is so very tight it is overloading the motor.

Clearly the machine must be dismantled and checked through by someone competent to do so. The supplied troubleshooting guide is not likely to be much help as they have to be safety-conscious, they tend only to deal with external issues.

Just bought an older Mantis 2 cycle tiller. The tines engage when the tiller is started. Of course that makes it hard to start with the tines on the ground! I don't believe it was doing this when I...

if the idle is too high the tines wont stop due to the tiller tines are run by a "centrifuigual clutch" which means when you increase the throttle speed the tines will start to turn : there are 2 adjustments you can try,1) adjust the idle screw under the carburetor where the throttle adjustment and a triangle piece of metal touch(your throttle cable wire will be attached to this triangle) ,if the triangle and idle adjustment don't touch and there's a gap between these 2 pieces close the gap by adjusting the 10mm adjusting nut, this will correctly set the idle #2) adjust the idle adjustment screw talked about above till the tines dont turn with throttle set at idle or lowest speed setting

a mantis tiller is low end. It does not have the weight to do any real tilling. Granted they are all gonna be hard to control, but unless you have, a bed that is soft soil , it will not work.

We have a Mantis electric cultivator that won't start. it's only a couple of years old

Electric tiller, and it will not run ?
I would check the cord that you plug into.
You must remove the plastic housing, by removing the screws.
Next look at the plug, is it in good shape, has anything been pulled out of it ?
The motor brushes should also be inspected.
Please let us know, we repair all Mantis equipment.

Tiller starts then quits when I start to till.

Does it run good with out a load on it or does it sound like it s spitting and sputtering? This problem sounds like it is fuel related you probably have some water in your fuel tank and carburator

After 2 hours of use, the tiller will only run long enough to spin around once or twice then stops. The reset button has been clicked. What did I do?

check your owners manual for the duty cycle rating. If it is75% , it can run for 45 mi. and needs to cool for 15 min. before using again. if it is 50% its 30 min. & 30 min.

Tines stop under load

you have to get someone with a big tractor to "break" the ground up first. A tiller is just that...Not a plow
