This is what I did. I took my saw to a lawn and garden store that sells chainsaws. I purchased a file and a file guide made for my size chain. It is easy. Just a few strokes with the round file on the teeth and a few strokes on the rackers and it is good to go.

For the normal size chain you use a 5.2mm round file. Smaller chains for top handles take a 4mm round file.

File Size: 5/32"

There are six different chains with different pitches that can be used on this saw. 1/4, 3/8 PMN, and 3/8 P use a 5/32" file; 0.325 uses a 3/16" file; 3/8 uses a 13/64" file; and 0.404 chain uses a 7/32 file. The pitch is ususally stamped on the side of the chain teeth.

3/8 low profile chain needs a 5/32 round file.

Staple Size 3/8 in. Crown Width, 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, 1/2, 17/32, 9/16 in. length
Brad Size 18 gauge, 3/4, 1, 1-1/4 in. length

There are multiple chain sizes 1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 5/32", 7/32" and 3/8" chains so the /8 chain number has me guessing. After the qurestions below, here is my best guess.

You can also use hand held chain sharpening files of the same size that have shapening angles marked on the file set fixture.

Hopefully you have a sharpening guide that will keep your angles correct while shapening.

The standard chain file should fit it. It is about 3/16 dia. I found the dremel to work 10 times better, they have a little stone bit just for chains. Eventually, you have to take it in for sharpening, it will set all the teeth the same.

The difference is the gauge of the chain.The chain comes in .050, .058, and .063 gauge. I am sure that Ryobi does not offer but one gauge bar. This is just one of the many problems of dealing with the box stores rather than a full service qualified dealer. If you can find one in your area, patronize them. Not just when the box store lets you down but for everything. These type dealers are disappearing and are not being replaced and soon they will all be gone.
