My archos 605 [160gb ] not recognized on my PC

When i plug my archos into the usb port, it is not recognized on the computer . What i mean is when i go to my computer, there is no arhos drive there. Can someone help me.

    i have an archos 5 my problem is the same with you shaddy.. my pc cannot recognized my archos but in the past i have no problem with it. up to now i have the same problem i already done all the things format, change the setting, pressing the reset button also the same result. if you have solve your problem kindly help me thanks.

Good day andy1958, thanks for your response but i have also tried it on other pc's. But the same msg appear it cannot recognized my archos 5 the msg is at first "unsupported device", now it appear the it cannot detect my archos..

    what if we update our firmware can it help? but how can i update it if my firmware if the pc cannot detect my archos? use wifi??

I recommend trying your archos on a different computer just to see if it is a pc or archos problem. Your pc should come right up and ask if you want to charge or use the usb port or both. Try another computer.

Not recognized by my laptop

Good morning, afternoon, evening or night; whatever time of day you are viewing this solution post. Thank you for choosing FixYa to assist you. Your computer is not recognizing your Archos Vision A14VG Digital Media Player? The computer should be able to recognize it because your digital media player is compatible with the three major operating systems: Windows, Mac and Linux. Maybe a Firmware or driver update will help.
  1. First, make sure your laptop has USB 2.0 hi-speed ports installed on it (If you are not sure if these are installed on your laptop, check your laptop's user manual).
  2. Connect your Archos to your laptop.
  3. On your laptop, go into Device Manager and expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers group. Double click each device in that group until you find your digital media player.
  4. Update the driver.
  5. If it doesn't need an update, click try uninstalling the driver then reinstall it again.
If the computer still doesn't recognize your device, Try these websites to see if the device may need a firmware or driver update from there.

If your computer is still not recognizing it, try connecting your device to a desktop PC. If the desktop PC recognizes your device, then the problem is coming from the USB ports on your laptop. They may not have the amount of power needed for the device to connect to your laptop. If the PC desktop doesn't recognize the device, then the problem is that one of the drivers in the Archos is defective (not working anymore). Once that happens, the only way the device can work again is if the defective driver gets replaced. My archos vision 1 is not recognised by computer

Hi, archos vision 1 player not recognized by the computer

This may be caused by one of the following:
1. Minimum system requirements were not met.
2. Corrupted drivers.
3. Computer restrictions.
4. Power issue.

To resolve this issue, try the following solutions:

SOLUTION 1 - For brand new player or first time connecting to this computer.

For Windows XP users: verify the following operating system requirements are met.
- Windows XP SP2 or higher
- Windows Media Player 10 or higher

Download and install the latest Windows Media Player if it's not installed.

For Windows Vista users: If the player is seen in My Computer when using MTP mode, but not showing in Windows Media Player.
- Download the hotfix from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939211.
- Run the hotfix.

NOTE: If you are trying to connect to a Computer at work that is part of a network, there may be user right restrictions that are set to disable access to new hardware or stop any program installations. You may need to check with your IT administrator to see if this is causing the problem.



SOLUTION 2 - Refresh the driver

STEP 1 - Connect the archos vision 1 player to the PC
The screen on your player should turn on, show 'Connected' and indicate the battery charging or full.
- If the player does not turn on try other USB ports or on another computer if one is readily available. Ensure you are connecting directly to the computer USB port and not to a USB hub.
- If there is nothing showing on the screen and the player does show up in as a storage device in an explorer window, then the screen is just not working.

If you receive the error "USB Device Not Recognized" on the computer, the player is most likely failed. Additional troubleshooting is unlikely to correct the problem.


STEP 2 - Check under Device Manager
1. Right-click My Computer, and select Manage.

NOTE: archos vision 1 Players can connect to your computer in MSC or MTP mode. Exceptions are archos vision 1 Connect and archos vision 1 Express which only use MTP mode. MTP mode is the recommended and default method for archos vision 1 Players when used with Windows OS.

The archos vision 1 player will show up on Device Manager's right pane as:
1. USB Mass Storage device (if the player is set to MSC)
2. Portable Device (if the player is set to MTP mode)

If there is a yellow exclamation point (!) or question mark (?) beside the device, try to refresh the drivers.


STEP 3 - Refresh the drivers
1. Right-click the entry with the error mark, select Uninstall.
2. On the top menu, click Action then select Scan for hardware changes.

NOTE: If a device with yellow exclamation point (!) continually appears and disappears, then the player is most likely failed. Additional troubleshooting is unlikely to correct the problem.

Greetings....

Please try to check if your USB port both rear and front USB port are not defective. Most common problem of defective usb ports are when plug your usb devices it won't recognize the device you inserted. So to make sure that your USB Ports are not the main cause why your computer won't recognize devices you inserted.

Archos won't connect by USB to computers

You should keep your eye on the device after its been plugged to the PC it will give you 2 options "charge" or "usb" you ca not establish a connection without picking usb connection option on the Archos screen when it pops up. If you are doing so and problem still existed then i would recommend you to download the latest windows media player. Because it comes with new devices sync driver update.

The archos 5 won't connect to the computer with the usb.

Ijust bought a archos 5 250gb , conected via usb and drag some music from pc to archos . A few hours late the archos stopped, the pc don´t recognize the archos .
I pressed the on/off and vol together and formated the aarchos .
now had been disaster , the display just appeared the ARCOS Entertainement you way . the pc don´t regognizer the ARCHOS, NOTHING APPEARED .

Getting a white screen with 102 error message

I fixed my son's 605 4 GB had Recovery code (104) on it. This might work for other error codes too. These are the steps i followed 
* Use the computer for this process that you always used for this archos Archos should be plugged in toPc before starting the process.
* Download the firware Upgrade 2.1
* Plug the Archos to Pc 
* When the white option screen comes up pick the format disk
* Wait until all done do not pick any option on archos after format is done Pc should recognize your archos in 5 seconds 

* Put the firmware in root section of the archos not in any folder.
* Safely remove the usb for Archos from your pc first and then unplug the cable.
* Do not pick any option on the Archos screen
* Just turn it off from the power button by holding it until it turns off
* Wait about 5 minutes and plug it back to pc 
* it will come up with white screen again but this time it will start Update you will see the progress bar moving, wait until it is all done, it will shut off. Turn it back on and  your archos will be back to normal
