How is the thermostat temperature probe secured to the freezer's storage bay?

I am replacing the thermostat on my freezer. Since I am replacing it I've decided to upgrade to a digital controller so I may have greater control on how the freezer operates and it's electricity consumption. The new thermostat temperature probe is different than the factory made version. The factory made version appears to be a solid piece of metal which is insulated and connected to the dial changes. The digital version I need to install uses a pair of wires connected to a metal probe about 3 inches long. I am asking how I should disconnect / remove the factory made thermostat probe so I don't damage the freezer. The compressor is still good. Is this as simple as tugging it out and then silicone the new one into place? Does anyone know if it is secured into place ... perhaps by welding or soldering? Thank you very much for any details you are able to provide.

SOURCE: Temperature control

I have a danby mini fridge and freezer and noticed the same problem. The temperature dial has NO NUMBERS ON IT! it just has a strip that goes from light to dark blue. That's it. I looked in the manual and it doesn't say anywhere which way is colder...it makes sense that the darker the blue the colder the temperature but why keep us guessing?

Doesn't matter thermostat is just a switch operated by temperature.

Electrolux freezer will not turn on automatically when termperature warms in compartment, controls don't appear to turn compressor on, any help would be appreciated?

Sounds like your thermostat is bad. You probably have to replace it and the sending unit also. Big job! Look for a manual at : http://www.servicemanuals.net

My freezer is flashing P2 - what does this mean?

Well, no, actually. P2 is an error related to the evaporator temperature probe. I would start with the electrical connections, the bond between the probe and the evaporator, and the evaporator fan.

What is the suitable temperature for 3 star freezer in uk summer?

3 star freezers are not storage freezers and will maintain frozen food for a short time only, They should reach -18c when closed but may come up in temperature quite rapidly when the door is opened. They are usually found as the cooling evaporator in fridges with freezer boxes in. Four star freezers are dedicated freezer storage space and will keep frozen food at the right temperature for some months.

P-1 flashes in temperature display

P1 is a probe fault on the control probe. Check it's not damaged or got water in the end.Check the connection to the controller. If all good, replace probe.

My freezer does not keep my ice cream hard, yet it freezes meats, etc. without a problem. What is wrong?

You don't note whether or not you've adjusted the thermostat. Ice cream (and juices) requires at least zero degrees, if not minus 5 degrees, for storage. Meats, fish, bread, etc. can become rock hard at much higher temperatures. Try setting the thermostat lower.

I want to use my freezer for beer. Can I raise the temperature by changing the thermostat? Any other suggestions besides using a fridge?

Not sure of your make/model. If its a standalone freezer you could exchange the termostat with a Fridge, or you could jury rig a seperate line voltage thermostat with probe in the compartment, which you would plug the fridge into and would override the internal thermostat (internal thermostat would always be calling for cooling because the line voltage thermostat would be set higher--any time the temp increased above the set point on the line voltage tstat the relay would close and the freezer would run). An anti freeze alarm coupled to a simple relay or contactor would work for this purpose... depending on how handy you are I could explain all the necessary components...

Im45le-25 defrost appears to go to long thus deforming evaporator probe holder & damaging probe as wont go into harvest mode .does machine use time as well if probe etc fail

Yes, the sensor detects the temperature of the evaporator plate then the PCB reverts to the adjustable timer. Check the probe in a glass of ice water. the reading should be between 5-7k ohms. if out of this range replace the probe. also check heat transfer paste is on holder and good contact is made probe to plate.
Be sure you are adjusting the pot the correct way as the large refers to the dimple in the cube not the thickness of the cube. ie its backwards to the initial thinking.

Ice maker runs continueously

I don't have the details on you machine but if I were going to trouble shoot this problem, assuming its a temperature probe I would power off the machine, remove the access panel and remove the temperature probe and check it with an Ohm meter or continuity checker for proper functioning by putting the probe in ice and see if it opens electrically. Sometimes the probe is not a simple thermostat type. The bin control on some machines is optical. The ice pile breaks a light beam to turn off ice making. Sometimes the probe is a thermistor. These latter two kinds of probes have electronics connected to them. A simple ohm check will not work for these cases. You can tell what kind you have by looking at it carefully. The thermostat kind that can be checked with a continuity checker or ohm meter is a sealed metal tube. The optical type has a light source and a separate pick up sensor. The thermistor type is a very small device on the end of a pair of wires. For the optical type or the thermistor type write back for more details.
