Refrigerator leaking on floor during defrost

It appears that your auto defrosting system (if you have one) is not working. So your evaporator coil is frozen up - all that ice serves as an insulator and not enough cold air is getting down into frig section. Until you replace either the freezer defrost element or the defrost timer all you need to do is unplug for a few hours till it fully defrosts then plug back in - will work fine for a few days at normal internal temps till the ice builds up again.

If your timer and defrost element are both working properly, THEN, you might want to check if you have enough refrigerant in the system - you may have a leak.

I know that your freezer shows a drain in its floor but there is also a drain behind the rear wall and at the bottom of a tray that collects the water during defrost and is surposed to drain that water that comes during defrost and then drains to a pan below the refrigerator and next to compressor. The solution will be to clean out this drain that is hidden from site behind the rear wall. I am pretty sure you are having a defrost drain blockage problem. Most defrost every eight hours and over a period of time the drain line that comes down from freezer into a cup like object top middle and back of the fresh food section. If blocked by gunk or ice you will see trails of liquid leaking down the rear wall of fresh food compartment until it reaches the crisper drawers.This is not always the same with every model as you may see frozen ice flowing down ther rear wall of freezers on side by sides. The key is to find if ice or just gunk has blocked you defrost drain. Unplug and then remove the rear panel in back of freezer. The ice and water-dispensing system of your refrigerator is quite complex. Many components work together to provide the ice and water. Aside from a simple problem of a leaky water tube or a jammed ice chute, most other components are not user serviceable. We suggest that you contact a qualified appliance repair technician for such repairs.

I was made aware of your concern and would like to offer a few ideas you may want to consider. Water dripping down is not a leak during defrost condition as this would be the ice melting. Normally, there would be a drain hose specifically to channel the melted ice/water to a drainage system. The amount of water would then be proportional to the amount of ice melting as with the length of time to completely melt, drain away.

Perhaps you could check the filter/drain screen as well as the drain opening for any blockage/clogging. You could also try checking the same on the drain hose as well as for possible kinks. Additionally, there would be a sensor behind a boxy cover that triggers the system back into operation. If there is still melted ice/water inside the freezer, then the sensor would prevent the unit from turning on completely. You may want to check this sensor and verify that it is dry.

An exploded parts diagram would help you identify/locate the above mentioned parts.

After a defrost cycle the ice around the evaporator melts, that water goes out and lands in a tray under the refrigerator. But sometimes the tube gets clogged and water spills inside the freezer and if enough water accumulates, it will make it to the floor. To fix this problem look for a small hole inside the refrigerator and open it up using a can of compressed air. Hope this helps

you have a cloged evap. drain. the rf is defrosting properly but with the drain be clogged the water has to go somewhere which is generally in the crisper draws on top and bottom models. two way to clear up this issue. turn rf OFF for at least 48 to 72 hrs. to allow the drain to de-ice or take matters into your own hands and take the back panel off of the freezer and using boiling hot water pour it down the evap. drain tube until it flows like you just flushed a tiolet
