KITCHEN-AID MODEL KHMC1857WSS over the stove door apparently is not closing tight enough or far enough

My KITCHEN-AID OVER THE STOVE MICROWAVE MODEL KHMC1857WSS---The door does not close tight enough or go in far enough to allow the unit to operate. The door will close and latch however the close door indicator is telling me to close the door (Door open) says "close door" therefore the unit will not operate. No matter how much I push on it after closing,,, Nada. Is there a fix for this? Thanks Carl Fixed the problem Took off the digital setting panel (front of unit and right most) Inside where the 2 pins (rectangular in shape attached to the inside of the door) slide into the slots provided I saw that the upper one had come loose and had dropped back far enough so that the upper door pin was not engaging. I just tightened the screw that holds the slot in place and "VOILAA!!!" all is working as it should. Hope this helps others with a similar problem as most makes work essentially the same.

SOURCE: Door latches to microwave broken

I assume you're talking about the spring that keeps tension on the door hooks (latch heads, as they're called by Sharp). When you shut the door, the "hooks" are held down by this spring to actuate the door switches. To fix this, you'll have to separate the door panels. You can download the service manual from my Web site. There's a loop built into the latch head assembly and sometimes the loop breaks. If so, you can drill a tiny hold in it and reattach the spring there. There may also be a loop on the innner door panel to hold the spring. That one can break, too. If it's broken, you'll have to find a way to secure the spring to the panel. If the panel material is thick enough, a tiny screw eye could be inserted, then epoxied overnight to secure it. I've attached a diagram to this message that should help you. If that doesn't help you, I have the service manual for the R1600-series microwaves on my Web site at: http://www.microwavedisplay.com/R1610.pdf Repost if you need more help.

SOURCE: Broken Microwaive Door

I'm assuming your correct model number is KCMS145JSS? You have a broken "release lever", part number AP3033332. It's reference number 7 on the exploded view diagram found here: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/sect/4/g/4/4g4rya32jj.gif You can order it by part number from Appliance Parts Pros here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383 If needed, you can download the owner's manual and installation guide here: http://www.kitchenaid.com/custserv/literature_search_results.jsp?searchTerm=kcms145jss If you need further help, please follow up. SOURCE: Sharp Carousel Microwave door latch stopped working door won't stay closed

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

We have *critical* safety & disassembly info at our site, linked here: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

We also have this full service manual at our site: http://www.microwavedisplay.com/R1480_R1481_R1482_sm.pdf

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

The microwave of our combination oven and microwave won't work. What is wrong with it?

The issue you're experiencing with your KitchenAid microwave/oven combo sounds like it may be related to the door not being properly closed or latched.
  1. Check the door: Make sure the door is closed tightly and securely. If the door is not properly closed, the microwave will not work.
  2. Latch: Ensure that the door latch is in good working condition and securely latched when you close the door.
  3. Door switch: If the door is closed and latched properly, the problem may be with the door switch. A malfunctioning door switch can prevent the microwave from starting.
  4. Control board: The issue may also be caused by a malfunctioning control board. The control board is the brain of the microwave, and if it's not working correctly, it can prevent the microwave from functioning properly.
  5. Wiring: Check the wiring of the microwave, if the connections are loose or damaged it could cause the microwave to not work.
If none of the above steps resolves the problem, it's best to contact the manufacturer or a professional for further assistance, as these are complex appliances and require specialized knowledge to repair.
It's important to note that attempting to repair an oven or microwave without proper training and tools can be dangerous and could cause further damage or injury.

Hope this helps!

How do I fix stove top lights?

Find the manual online by going to Google and put in the make and model of your stove. It's usually found on the inside of the door. In the manual it will tell you how to replace the lights (bulbs).

Whirlpool microwave turns on and have to open door to stop it

Has it got wet inside at all? If so it could sort itself out after drying out.
But I would keep leaving the door open as you do, or replace it. Because it is a safety risk, if it came on while empty, after a while it could set fire to itself.

I have kitchenaid microwave model 1857 wss it was working perfectly the night before and when in the morning I came to kitchen the microwave looked the it lost its power although I check all of the circut...

SEEING AS HOW YOU USED IT THE NIGHT BEFORE, THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE THAT YOU MAY HAVE BLOWN A FUSE OR A THERMAL CUT OUT (TCO) THERE ARE SEVERAL DIFFERENT FUSES IN THIS MICROWAVE. IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN SALVAGING THE MICROWAVE BECAUSE YOU LIKE IT, I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND CALLING A TRAINED PROFESSIONAL TO FIX THIS UNIT BECAUSE THIS UNIT IS HIGH VOLTAGE WHEN IT'S RUNNING AND HAS VERY HIGH POTENTIAL TO KILL YOU. BE VERY SAFE WHILE INSPECTING ANY FUSE FOR CONTINUITY (0OHMS OF RESISTANCE ON YOUR METER.) NOTE THAT SOME THERMOSTATS IN THIS UNIT LOOK LIKE TCOS.

I need to put a new door handle on a kitchen aid microwave. It is above the stove, the model number is khms155lss-4

The diagram can be found at
http://c.searspartsdirect.com/lis_png/PLDM/W0601206-00002.png

Open the door all the way and lift it up (press on bottom of door) to lift the hinge pins out, then pull away from the unit (walk backward) to remove it.

Then, the remove the inner plastic shell from the outer plastic shell by prying gently around the outer shell. There are no screws holding it together.

Once apart, you can see the screw (item 8 in the drawing). You can remove the screw and replace the handle. reverse the process to get it together.

Make sure the door is all the way back in tightly and firmly just as it is now or you can have a microwave leak. Work carefull and, if you have a digital camera or a camera phone, take pictures of each step to make sure you know how it goes back together.

cheers.

Microwave stopped working with no warning. They had a recall on this model and since they ordered two parts it has not worked right

Just had my Kitchen Aid Microwave KHMS155LSS burn up and bellow smoke.

Thankfully, I was close by, stopped the microwave, vented the smoke, turned off the circuit breaker and unplugged it. Still the smell of burned motor, burned plastic has me concerned. Did it get hot enough to cause problems behind the drywall? So far, I am keeping a "fire watch" to make sure nothing is smoldering.

Does stove-top need downdraft if microwave has oven-hood combo?

We have a stove with no downdraft, and a microwave with a hood above it. It works just fine. I expect you could keep your downdraft and put a microwave without a hood above it, and that would also work. I don't think, however, you can buy an above the range mocrowave oven, that slides in on brackets, which will not have a hood.

Power out on Whirlpool over-the-stove microwave

Yes, There are fuses inside the keyboard panel. I would have to take a look at the manual for the specific model you have to identify the easiest way to check the fuse.
Before you go that far check above the hood and see if you can locate the plug end of the microwave. Most installations have a dedicated receptacle above the exhaust vent and microwave. It is usually a space too small for good storage so most housewives store small items and cookbooks in this space. It is usually the culprit for a microwave suddenly going out without someone placing metal inside the oven and heating it.
Heating a metal object or operating a microwave for an extended time will usually blow the fuse.
