Why does it run continually?

Hello David;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

If your freezer is running continually something is wrong. Your refrigerator freezer will run, then shut down to go through the defrost mode. The defrost mode is usually 10 to 20 minutes approximately every 8-10 hours.

What is happing is your compressor is trying to maintain the set temperature and will not shut down until it does.

So, you either have a bad condenser fan (Cools the heat), a frozen cooling coil (Cooling air obstructed) or a bad cooling fan.

Un plug your freezer for 24 hours. Put plenty of old towels under the freezer to collect the frozen ice.

Clean the condensing coils underneath. If the fab=n on the bottom is not running, use a household fan and blow air under the freezer until you can replace the lower fan.

Send me a model number. I will give you the part number you need. Easy fix.

The freezer does not freeze anymore

Hello Rina;
My name is Peter. I am a retired field service technician.
You need to provide more information.
Upright freezers are very simple.
There is a label on the side wall witch has your model number on it.
1.) Locked in the defrost mode - If nothing is running except for the light being on then you are locked into defrost. Your defrost timer is in the back behind a metal plate. With a large flat head screw driver slowly turn the shaft clockwise one click at a time to turn the freezer on. If it turns on this component will have to be replaced.

25676024-2tl4mzw4ix4qkonroxm2e5ag-2-0.jpg Cost: $20.00

2.) Is your freezer cool? You may have a frozen drain and cooling coil. Un plug your freezer and leave the door open for 24 hours. After several hours check to see if you have water build up in the bottom of the freezer. If so, you are going to need to keep soaking up water unit there is no more.

3.) Can you hear the cooling fan running? These fans are $35-65.00.

4.) You may have a bad thermostat, bad defrost heater, or a refrigerant obstruction.

I need more information from you to determine the problem and the model number.

ICE BUILD UP ON INSIDE BACK OF FREEZER.

The air in the freezer is circulated by a fan, there are a number of possibilities
1. Is the internal fan running, this may be switched by the door opening, to test push the small switch on the door frame ( if fitted). If the fan is running go to
2. If the fan is running can you feel air coming out of the bottom of the duct inside at the bottom.
3. If there is no air coming out of the duct the duct is possibly blocked with ice, or the cooling coil at the top is iced up.
4. If there is no air flow then the best and quickest option is to empty the freezer, store your goods elsewhere, switch it off, use a wedge to keep the door partly open and leave off for at least 24 hours. You may find a large pool of water on the floor after this and you will also need to dry out the inside of the cabinet.

Icing of this type is caused by
1. Door not being closed properly, door misaligned or faulty door seals.
2. Putting "hot" product (over 2deg C / 34 deg f) into the freezer.
3. Not covering or sealing product being stored in the freezer.
4. Defrost timing not working (ask your service guy) for this and the rest I'm afraid
5. Defrost heater not working
6. Blocked condensate drain
7. Faulty thermostat, keeps on cooling

Hope this helps

Freezer not cooling but the power and run lights are on. temp set between 3 and 4.

Check to see if the cooling coils are clean. Dust is a great insulator and may be keeping the coils from doing their job.

Kenmore freezer is not cooling

Listen for some type of noise from the back lower part of the freezer. This could indicate a problem with the compressor. It is not a fast fix problem. Get your frozen foods to a cold temperature. If the compressor is running and you are not getting the cooling your system could have lost its refrigerant charge. If the compressor is cool and not running check the temperature control. It may have failed. Unplug the power to the freezer and remove the temperature control. Jumper the two main wires that attach to the temperature control and insulate them with electrical tape. Plug the freezer back in and the compressor should start and cool. If this makes it run replace the thermostat.
