Firmware updates usb port plays then freezes up

It depends on the model and it is capable of streaming via the USB Port. Older sets have the USB to allow for firmware updates and to service engineer access.

- Firmware update doesn't start or doesn't complete
? Receiver doesn't power up after the update.
? Error message appeared when confirming the firmware version.
Recovery method using USB method:
1. Unplug the AC power cable from wall outlet.
2. Insert the USB thumb drive which has the firmware data stored inside, into the USB port located on the front panel.
3. Press and hold the INFO key and keep it pressed while you plug the AC power cable back into the wall outlet again.
" USB UPDATE " will appear on the front display. Then, release the INFO key.
4. The update will start automatically.
5. When " UPDATE SUCCESS " appears on the display, firmware update is completed.
Power off the receiver and remove the USB thumb drive.
6. Confirm updated firmware version.

? The firmware data is stored in the root directory of the USB thumb drive.
? There is no other data except the firmware data in the USB thumb drive.
? No folders are created in the USB thumb drive.
Else, retry the update by USB using another USB thumb drive.

Make sure software was in top menu in USB stick. Not ib a folder. Try reset buttons on front of TV. Could be bad e2p module. (boot firmware.)

No, the USB port is for Service (firmware updates only).

Check to see if the player needs a firmware update or if there is a reset on it. Also try different USB ports on your PC to see if when you plug it in it recognizes the player and maybe needs firmware. If you have more trouble try the RCA website or call customer service. Good luck.

Remove battery, press and hold "Play" button when inserting into USB port. Run the firmware update and should be able to re-initialize the device, start the update with the "Format" option checked. Worked for me.

I had decided to reload the firmware. Initially this did not work as the device could not be found. I then found a mention that if you reset the device and then as you plug it into the USB port hold the Play button in... you should see it find new hardware (ROM initialzing). After this I had to reboot. It still wouldn't start but now I was able to load the firmware and it came up fine after this. This method does format the drive so everything is lost (not even the initial software was on it).
