Anything can be fixed or replaced. Question is if it is cost effective to repair. If compressor is internally shorted, you just go out and buy a new ac since the cost of repair is more than that of a new one.

Make sure that the short is not in the wire leading to the compressor before you go out and spend the scheckles.

How do I find the power board in a 1997 big screen Sony TV to check the fuse? How do I check the fuse? I live in a house built in the 1890's, and last year there were 2 different tornados ,within 2...

With it unplugged remove the rear cover and follow the power cord inside the set to the power supply board===the cord goes directly to the line fuse which in a set of that age will be in a plug in holder----look to see if strand of metal in middle is broken or even blackened.

Amperage will be marked on end of such a fuse--my guess is 6.3 amps but there will also be a marking on the board with the value.

Panasonic ct-32sl13g blowing fuse by power supply

You will need to remove the back of the TV. Don't worry, it's not that bad.

There are 4 screws across the top, one on each side, one right next to where the power cord goes into the back of the case, and the two more by all of the video connections **These are the most important to remove because they attach the main board to the back of the case.

Once you have remove the screws then the entire back of the set will slide off. If you look where the power cord attaches to the board you will see a small fuse. This is a 6.3 Amp 125 volt fuse. You can replace it with a 6.3 Amp 250 volt fuse from your local Radio Shack. A four pack costs between $3 and $5.

Make sure that you check that it works before putting it all back together. Check for any loose connection cables while you're back there. I found a few when I did this.

Good luck!
