Overheating causes pc shutdown

You are correct. The machine will shut down or Blue screen if it over heats. The over heating can be caused by the Heatsink on the CPU or GPU not providing a good enough heat conducting channel for cooling. Cleaning the fan is a good start, but also be aware of where the PC stands, is there sufficient ventilation for example to extract the hot air?
Being an All -in-One will make more difficult. But check if all electrical connections are secure as the power supply can also cause your machine to shut down and the power supply fan should also be cleaned.
To apply Thermal paste you have to dismantle the machine and get to the Motherboard. I suggest you take it to a repair centre as the dismantling can be difficult in these units.

This sounds like it could be an overheating issue. Some manufacturers use a cheap thermal paste on their processors. If you are dealing with a computer this should be an easy fix but if you are dealing with a laptop then it is much more involved. Go to Youtube and research replacing or removing heat sink. You wont be replacing the heat sink but the procedure is the same except you will need to clean the old paste off your heat sink before you apply more. Don't go crazy with the paste, a little goes a long way, all you are doing with the thermal paste is ensuring full contact between the processor and the heat sink with no air gaps.

My acer 5720 laptop gets v hot and shuts down i sit it on a coolin pad already. what could the problem b it seems 2 hapen more often when the power cable is in use and only rarely when the batery is in use

This is a common problem in the acer line, remove bottom and clean all the open ports and fins on the heat sink and fan. Next remove the heat sink and clean the old conductive paste off, including the processor ic with rubbing alcohol, now! apply fresh conductive thermal paste to the heat sink and ic, this will increase the heat dissipation by 50%, and check to make sure the fan is running properly, "high failure rate" this should solve your shutdown problem.

My laptop turn off, I think it got hot, I can't turn it on now. turn off Sunday

Hi
try this,
unplug dc plug from laptop. remove battery.
wait a few minutes. press and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds.
plug the dc power plug back into the laptop, but do not put battery back in yet. Then try to power on. if it powers on, let it run a few minutes, but best to keep checking to see if it is getting warm or hot anywhere. if it is getting hot shut it down immediately. If it isnt getting hot then shut it down and put the battery back in.

if it doesnt power up, then i would have to suspect heat damage to the motherboard.

Computer power ON/OFF behavior is not as expected!

Hi...

If all the parts of your computers are fined functioning. This is a CPU problem witch is no display. Try to disassemble the CPU remove the heat sink the CPU and clean and insert it again. When you are now inserting the CPU be sure that you will put a thermal past in the heat sink so that the heat from the CPU are absorbed. If the heat will not be absorbed it will cause overheating.

Good luck! Thanks for using fixya.

Dell Dimension 9200 keeps shutting down and won't start up

the key issue on the uncommanded shutdown is the POWER LED. If upon shutdown, the power LED Flashes AMBER, then the power supply is suspect.

If no flashing amber indication, then the next think I check is the heatsink (Processor overheating) remove, clean and apply arctic Silver heat transfer paste, see if the issuje goes away

Last but not least if the system is failing to boot, and displays a 3 4 diag LED code, then you may have a RAM module that is bad or may just need reseating. Running diags off of the Rersoujrce CD is something to look at too
